...here, get this book right here.  It's real simple to understand.  You play the exercises heel up and down using a metronome.

You need to to learn how to read then. Simple.

However a lot of books have the sticking or patters of RL... in them. That does not however teach you notation value as far as time and space. I encourage you to spend invest time/resources in learning how to read so that you can be a complete musician and take advantage of the vast learnin g resources in the writte format.

Thanks guys.  However, is there any book out there that can help me learn by myself?  It would be really cool if there is.
Thanks

Do you mean learn to read music by yourself?

I suggest
Syncopation For Drums by Basix - Basic notation, two line stuff
The Reading Drumm by Berlee Press - full info

Yeah, I learned how to read in like :30 minutes... no kidding. Its all about counting.

1
1-2-
1234
1+2+3+4
1e+a2e+a3e+a4

Looks kinda like a pyramid... I this book called "Play DRUMS today' and it has a CD with it to tell you what it sounds like. I would learn to read the music forst, then seconday play, then play to the CD... I almost ended up like Nick Cannon in Drumline memorizing what I heard, instead of following thru and reading.

2.The Reading Drumm by Berlee Press - full info
3.Play DRUMS today

Yo man, you need to do some work for yourself too... What's not to say that the books above WON'T help you??? How do you know they WON'T help?
We can't answer those questions for you. But what we have said is that "These books have helped us. We recommend they will do the same for you at your current level of playing ability..."

Okay guy... this is what you have to understand. You will forever be learning how to play the drums and how to play music. Even if you get to the Master level you will still have things to learn. You master one technique or book and you go to the next.

After you learn single and double line music (snare=single, snare/hihat or snare/kick or double drum = two line) , You thien learn full music staff patterns and entire drumset groove and fill patterns then entire drumset charts. You seem young so I suggest that you join your school bandand learn to read in there. Learn to play the mallet instruments and quad/quint tenor drums so that you learn to sight-read play multi-line charts.

Folks whom read charts keep working.

Folks don't forget to include time signature into consideration when learning to read/playing for this what gives things a different favor. Understanding note value is an important concept too.

I'M IN A SIMILAR SITUATION AS EBICHIES. I CAN'T READ DRUM MUSIC EITHER, BUT I THINK THAT I WOULD LEARN ALOT MORE AND ALOT FASTER IF I HEAR IT, OPPOSE TO READING IT. I CAN ONLY SPEAK FOR MYSELF.

You don't hear exercises...
Say if part of the exrcise is heel down and the other is heel up you should not hear a difference when it is played properly. Some folk play just as fast and powerful heel down as they do heel up.

Learn to read... don't make excuses. Fact is the better you can read you would even be asking this question. All they best techniques are written out and you guys will not even make the effort to get them. Their is an old sayng about if you want to hide something from "us" ... put it in a book. hmmmm.... ?/? ::)

Are you telling him to check this for foot technique? If so, you can't see his foot technique this has been explained here LGM in length some time ago. I was discussing the Carlin McCullar video with someone just TODAY! Oh yes, Carlin is executing and sounds good. If you can’t understand (which is to see something for what it is not what it appears to be) what’s going --that will get you NOWHERE on the real… Compared to driving (which we all do/ will do) this will get him only to the end of the block, see you’ll never be able to drive on the Interstate. He can listen to Carlin and strive to implement, if he doesn’t understand Subdivisions he will be left victimize to the air born disease. Remember there is No shortcut to being a real musician. Let’s feed each other with health food not fast food.  Put in the time and learn to read. “ A life without Knowledge (which is to Look, Listen and Observe (which is to study) is DEATH in disguise.”  How many of us want to be Self-saviors? The crossroads have been unblocked, yet we seek NOTHING.  Fam be aware there’s an air born disease going around can be detrimental. Unlock your minds. One love….
