Organ/Keyboard
« on: June 07, 2006, 05:50:08 PM »
Whats up board, I just wanted to know how many of yall put a keyboard on top of the organ, and play both at the same time.  I have did this a couple of times, because I like my piano and strings during worship, but when playing a shout or congregational song I like to play the organ.....

When I was at my old church I had a fantom on top of the organ just to run bass, strings, etc.

When I played organ at my home church, we didnt have a bass player every Sunday.  So I had a small Roland I would sit on top of the organ with some very nice bass patches I programs.  I played it through a bass rig with two 15s and a horn, and I would play bass on the pedals as well as on the board.  I was able to tweak my left hand to get some of the nuances and grace notes of the bass . . . I swear I could make it sound like a full band.  Occasionally I would split the keyboard and also have horn patches, but we had a piano player so I never used it for piano.  Sometimes I would set up my Clavinet off to the side.

I played this gig one time at a benefit thing and the keyboard setup was amazing!!!  There was a Clavinet sitting ontop of the B and a rhodes off to the side with a swivel chair so you could tun to it quickly.  Thats a real steup!!!

Because if you're looking to have a full band, as opposed to organ/drums, you want it to sound as though you have a bass player.

WELL NOT TO OFFEND ANYBODY BUT, IM A REAL ORGANIST. I PLAY THE BASS WITH MY FEET. BUT FROM TIME TO TIME I DO USE A KEYBOARD TO THE LEFT OF THE ORGAN TO PLAY WITH SYNTH LEADS, DIST. GUITARS, HORNS ECT.

I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE PLAYING THE BASS ON THE KEYBOARD BUT, WHEN YOU PLAY BASS WITH YOU LEFT HAND IT TAKES AWAY FROM YOU CHORDS. SINCE I DON'T HAVE THE BEST CHORDS OUT THERE I TRY TO HAVE MY CHORDS AS FULL AS POSSIBLE.

Yeah I had my boy's Fantom on top of the organ and sometimes I put a triton le on there.  I use it for bass on newer chior songs because i don't feel like diing it with my feet.  Hoever i use it for brass during P & W.  Now like someone said earlier, I will tend to put it on a sick synth lead and run that over a phat chord. That's sooooooo fun.
