Generic Keys to play in for Shoutin Music
« on: October 23, 2006, 01:03:33 PM »
Praise Him Everyone! I wanted to know what keys are the "generic congregational" keys you use for your shoutin music. I use Ab, and I've heard that F is another one. I would like to know your improvisions and ideas.

If the preacher begins the shout, he usually starts in a key that works for his voice.  That makes it more challenging.  Last Sunday, I was running shouts (or attempting to) in Db and then in B at two different points in the service.

It depends on wherre the preacher or evengelist tunes up in. Most times Db, Eb, F, Gb, Ab, Bb or C. G is rare but a nice key to shout in.

I'm with you on that BC.  You should not limit yourself whatsoever.  Where the preacher is you are also.   No key should be a obstacle but a stepping stone challenge to more wonderful chords.
