Lust of Eye
« on: June 14, 2006, 02:39:46 PM »
Most money problems stem from a lust of the eye. If you go to the mall, I GUARANTEE you will SEE something you like. If we address the spirtual aspect then we can begin to control the lust.

This is so true!  I find if I deny myself that immediate satisfaction, I usually have less of an urge to buy it after I've given it some thought.  My long term goals mean more to me when I take a "Selah" break.  This preacher said one time that "Selah" means to pause a moment and think about it.  Sometimes my Selah breaks last longer, I have to leave the mall or store and go home.  Usually I'll decide not to go back and buy whatever it was.  I find I can do without it, even if it was the deal of the century.

I don't have a lot of "friends", but I have people that I'm friendly with.  I have been invited on occassion to "GO SHOPPING" with these ladies, and everytime I decline.

I believe because I've been in marketing for so many years I don't get caught up in the hype of sales, "TODAY ONLY" CLEARANCE 75% off", "LAST CHANCE"

I hate  wasting money, but moreso I hate wasting time.  I just can't see myself aimlessly walking around a mall, LOOKING for trouble. Even growing up I did not hang out at a mall. (My own mother couldn't understand that)

When I shop, I don't buddy shop, I know what I'm going to get and I may have to stop in 2 or 3 different stores to find it.  I walk fast anyway, so if you decide to hang with me and you strollin'........ you may have to catch the #3 back to the hood.  I shop quick and fast, so I don't have time to eat at the mall.

You will never catch me getting out of my WARM bed at 3:00 a.m. in the morning to fight folks, traffic and weather for that "After Thanksgiving Day Sale".

NEVER!

I've know women who've been married for YEARS and still have to hide bags in the trunk, or scuff up the bottom of the NEW shoes to make them look like they not brand new.   They hid New Clothes on the hanger under old clothes ..... By the same token, I've seen a many marriage dissolve because of one spouse or another's out of control spending habits.... Sheer MADNESS

Lust of the Eye.. nope, not the kid!  I've got my EYE on stuff you cain't even get at the mall.

My father was very wise when it came to finances and he taught me well.

If you buy an $100 item on sale for 10% off.

How much have you saved?

Wait for it......

You've save nothing. You just spent $90.

Nice csedwards2 . :D hahahahaa  But its true.

I personally have to stay out of the stores, because I am quick to pick up something that I am not going to use.  So I just avoid the stores completely.

Exactly. Sale is an abused word within the market.

Not to mention the often overlooked brainwashing of restaurant customers.......

When you're finished your meal, You ask for the check when you really are asking for the bill. Now it would be awesome to receive a check (good feeling designed by restaurant to anchor the new desired mentality). Now if a restaurant was giving out checks everyday, people would flock to their doors, but in reality we're writing a check for them.
