LOL!! I've never seen a organ that had a knob. I have cuts on my thumb right now from leslie switches!

You'll save money in band aids if you just go this route... http://www.tonewheelgeneral.com/build_page.php?item_no=LES-KNB

another bad habit that i had for the longest time on the organ was playing the expression pedal with the tempo.

I was really bad about that too when I first started playing the organ. Finally it just kinda faded away. I actually read somewhere from Tony Monaco that it's a very common habit among beginners to do that. So I guess we can't feel too bad. :)

that's good to know
Sorry if the band seems too loud tonight.  Now go tear Psalms 150 from your bible and sit down. ;-)

If you are cutting yourself on a halfmoon switch with no knob you must be abusive to your hammond. I hate those ones with the white knobs though. :D Those things break easy.
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

I think of the switch like a singer applying vibrato to his/her voice ... It would sound very annoying and it would be very difficult to sustain the note if he/she just sung straight (Imagine singing high notes without vibrato... it would sound like nails scratching a chalkboard)...

If you notice one thing about vibrato... It sounds good when it is  applied gradually at the end of a note or phrase... you can't sing long passages or start notes in vibrato without sounding like a nervous sheep

The leslie switch is no different, that's why it seems like many organists are constantly switching on every other chord...

Besides that, it sounds very dramatic (especially with dominant and diminished chords, or during cadences) and it makes playing the organ look more complicated, thus making the organist look better!!!!

The problem was fixed. One of the trustees moved the leslie the day before when he was working on the church, I guessed he made the cable come loose so that all of the pins werent conected ?/?. Anyway, I just pushed the cable in, and it now works

i use to be guilty of "abusing" the switch as a bad habit from when i was first starting out. when i started watching taped services is when i realized i was a "switch junkie". now i just relax and use it wen im at the point of the song or progression when i feel its neccessary. it just takes a little seasoning to know when and where its more effective at..oh yeah and now wit the "new skool" hammonds u dont even have to touch the switch u can kick it on the volume pedal which can become addictive also so bottom line: LEARN TO CONTROL YOUR HANDS AND FEET!! lol be blessed
