FX Pedals
« on: July 14, 2006, 06:44:12 PM »
I am reforming my old band and we have been auditioning guitar players over the past couple of weeks.  We have seen 4 guys so far and each one was very well equiped with some impressive gear.  Each one of them noticed my pedal board was bigger than theirs!!  The guy we saw today said that he couldn't understand why a bass player needs so many pedals and was quite opininative about it (he's not getting the job, so I don't care!  :P).

I have always used at least 2-3 pedals at church and I have collected several more over the years for performance and studio work.  They are all racked up in my rig and I invested in a Voodoo Labs GCX Audio Selector and I can control them all in which ever order I want via the Ground Conntrol midi pedal board I bought with it.  One of the best buys I have ever made!

The only pedals I use for praise/worship playing is my Electro Harmonix Q-Tron, EBS Octabass and perhaps my BOSS Bass Synth (just to annoy the keys players!).  My Pastor Ray often gets up on stage and asks each member of the band to do an 8-16 bar solo!  I only really use those pedals for those times or maybe a funky groove.

Does anyone use FX pedals at church?

I have used and own a multi effects pedal. Chorus, and an overdrive is about all I want. A wah is also nice. An octave device is also nice

I use my BOSS GEB-7 eq pedal everytime I play, just so that I can get more tone shaping.  But I do have a Zoom 506 pedal that I rarely use now a days.  I'm thinking about getting the Digitech BP-80 pedal.  If i don't get that, I will get a chorus, octave, wah pedal and a flanger for sure.

I tried one of those a couple of years back.  Couldn't really make much use of it.  Sounded pretty good with a fuzz pedal before it

I don't use it that much, but I will bring it out when I playing keys for concerts and things like that.  I use it majority of the time at home.  I mess around with it doing songs like Bernard Harris.

I use the Boss GT-6B. It was a pretty penny, but it was worth it. It has just about every effect that a bass player could want.

I want to get that! How are the effects on it and how do you like using it? I use the Boss GT-8 processor when I play guitar. I can't imagine it being much different.

I was looking at one of those a few weeks ago. Do you think it's worth paying $70 to $80 for one?

I still have not mastered it. Somebody should put out a video on how to use it. But I do like some of the effects. The phaser, Wah and other effects are good. It also has an excellent D.I. to plug straight into a P.A. or for recording.
