::: Evans EC2 Coated Drumheads :::

Evans is releasing the coated version of the EC2s in August (2006).  Here are a few photos:

"These new EC2 coated heads feature a fine, translucent frosted coating that results in a warm tone and additional focus."

http://www.massmusic.net/shop/images/19258.jpg

"Evans is proud to introduce the EC Snare series, available in diameters from 10" through 14" and with or without a unique "reverse dot" made with the same 3mil material as the ring. Each head consists of a 7mil top ply and 10mil bottom ply for maximum durability (especially the reverse dot version which totals 20mils thick at its center), each with the sophisticated edge control system that banishes unwanted overtones. A translucent frosted coating lends a unique, attractive look. Despite the head's relative thickness, it has a forgiving feel; ghost notes project tremendously well; rim shots offer a "tweaked" palette of rich overtones; and center-of-the-head strokes yield fat, focused tones. The stress-relieved reverse dot patch has the unique effect of eliminating some mid-range frequencies, yielding a desirable crack at all tuning ranges."

The snare drum head looks interesting, however, I am not sure if it'll be 'too much drumhead' for me.   ;D

Great looking out J_Kay. I am with you on the snare head possibly being too much. I am think that this is their answer to the Emporer X in a warmer sound. THough they kinda already have that in the ST, ST Dry, HD, and HD DRy models but with out the reversed dot. Being blessed to have quality drums I don't really need that much head BUT ... I may have to test it out ;D so I can know for myself. Hey, until I heard the ST on your Donati snare I thought it to be too much now I am thinking of trying it and or the HD on my Weckl.

I'll try the snare head on my MHX. I am not sure about the reverse dot one though?...Same feeling as you guys. But, I have never played a reverse dot head before, so maybe now is the time.

I think I am going to try out the Coated EC2's on my kit before I slap G2s on them. It cant hurt, and I will at least know what I think about them.

God Bless.

I have the Reverse Dot on my Akira Jimbo snare, and it sounds great (to my ears)!  I also have the Reverse Power Dot on my G-Maple, and it also sounds great (to my ears).

If you can, try them all to get an idea of what sound characteristics each head produces.   ;D

This head will grace the copper free-floater and maybe the Musashi 12"... I am looking to experiment with it. Maybe some 30-strand Snappy wires and Hazy 300 snare side.

I think that you should pimp your Musashi with the new EC2 snare batter!   ;D
