Ever Had To Lead A Service?
« on: July 23, 2006, 10:38:16 PM »
To make a long story short, our MM had to leave service early today to go and preach at another church's 11am service.  Our drummer also plays the organ a little so he hopped on the organ and we had another person sit in on the drums.

Only problem with this is that the kid on the organ doesn't know how to play in very many keys and it was getting close to time to closing the sermon.  Not knowing this, our pastor continued on preaching and kept looking over at us waiting for us to help him out.  I had to come up with some "preacher chords" on the bass pretty quick to cover for the organ player.....needless to say this was an interesting service!!! lol

Anyways, I thought I would just ask if any of you guys have ever been put in a position like this and if so, what did you do?  I just played a low Ab with the octave to (attempt to) mimick the usual organ stuff and threw in a few runs when tasteful.  Every now and then I would use the same note + octave method to walk up from a B->C->Db->D then back to the Ab.

The drummer and kid on the organ got a kick out of my "bass organ chords" lol...

Yea I know how it feels.

One day something went wrong with the stage mix and the organ player wasnt getting any volume and the pastor gave us that same look because he wasnt aware of the problem.

So I was thinking about playing some chords on the bass, but then I just grabed one of the spare electric guitars and started strummin away.

A couple 7-9's and some Diminshed chords saved the day !

However it looked planned because the organ player fixed the problem and came it on the last chord, the root, and all was good.
