Speaking of War... Check out the bass player on James Hall's We are at War. I think either Reggie Young or his brother Grant Hall played bass. James' has classical background as well as crazy gospel roots so the lines in that song were definately rough. I started trying it out this week, my forearms are still hurting. Maybe you should check it out. This is the title track of the album.
