WHO USES THE TRANSPOSE BUTTON
« on: August 16, 2006, 02:55:55 PM »
My thoughts on it is that everyone should learn how to play in every key.
I dont' think using transpose is going to help someone learn....
So I'm asking the LGM Family, what are your thoughts on this???

I think everyone`s goal  should  be to learn all keys,  but for now, thanks for the transpose button. I agree, it will slow your progress down.

I'll be the first to admit that I have used the transpose button, however the use of it has become less frequent. I hate it when I use it because I know that it hinders me from progessing, which is what drove me to learn all of my keys. I know that in the last two months I have used the transpose button 3 times.

I always have an account of how many times I have used transpose because I am trying to learn all progressions and songs in all keys fluently, and keeping an account shows me what I have to work on.

Yea after my incident which happen about 10 yrs ago.. I never touched the transpose key again unless it was to go up an octave or down an octave. And that's it.  That incident scarred me for LIFE. But I'm glad it did. Basically what happened is that I transpoed at a choir concert and forgot to transpose back down. So the choir ended up singing the rest of the concert about 4 steps higher than the key the original pieces are in.  Bad move on my part. But hey I learned my lesson!!!!!

I agree with this brotha right herr. But also.. I think if you have learned all your keys to where you can play fluent or decent, then i think that you can juz go ahead and play around with da trans. button cuz you've already learned so ur not cheating. There wuz a post juz like this a while ago.

What gets you is when you get to a place and all they have is a piano or an old organ like a Allen or Wulitzer. ;D Or people use the transpose or force the choir in their key and the director and the choir is trying to figure out what went wrong. Or trying to figure out why the choir cant get their parts.
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

The transpose button? :o :o :o :o :o

You all must repent!!!

No, seriously. I have never used the transpose button (can you believe it) and it's not because I am a beast in all the keys, it's just that I have spent most of my years playing on a piano so I have been forced to know how to play in all the keys. I still struggle with E and A but I'm working on it.

I say learn your craft to the best of your ability. Stay away from the transpose button!!!

I transpose only when I play the keyboard.  When I play the B3 Hammond, of course that is not possible unless you have the new age Hammond organs.  I'm trying to get out of transposing, but it seems so much easier especially when you're not as fluent in all of the keys like you want to be.  I have my favorite keys like everyone else.  I truly want to learn how to play LEFT hand chords, but no one seems to have the time to sit down and teach me.   I think that is the problem with transposition, no one has the time to sit down and become their best in each key progression as they need to.
