Check, Check Check, Check 1, Check 2 - No More Sound Checks?????????

Wow I can't believe This statement

" You guys don't need to have a soundcheck anymore. Younow have in-ear monitors so there is no need"

So last night I was in the car with out Head A/V person and asked if he could be at church a little early this morning...(it's 6:30am here now)? We just got a new in-ear monitoring systems for each musician and vocalist and we are not yet accustomed to the system and we need to have a longer sound check. His exact response was " You guys don't need it, you have your own in-ear monitors."

At this point I try to expalin to him the need for a sound check if for no other reason that, it's new system ( 1 week -old) and things can happen and we want to be aware of any possible issue before service actually begins so that we can be sure to have enough time to trouble shoot and put out any fires. This escalated into a very heated argument about the A/V departments on going issues.

However... it became an issue because The sound man actually said " You guys dont need to have a sound check.

Is there ever a time in any event; church service, concerts etc... that you don't need some sort of sound check?

And has anyone ever heard a sound man say " you don't need to have a soundcheck?"

I may be wrong so I need honest feedback and or "experienced" people in sound  to respond.

I appreciate it because I have to address this in 4 hours.

Dawg, folks may be a church already because it's 9:50 over here. But, I would say to you that sound folks are doing 'checks' during the service. And, this is after they've done a "1-2, 1-2 check check; 1-2, 1-2", so I understand where you're coming from. Sound checks are extremely important to the flow of a service.

I pray it works out for you.

I forget that we are all on different times zones

Man I just can't how a soundman says " u dont need the soundcheck". Actually it's scary to think that he could come to that conclusion. But It's the enemy to he always wants to mees up the service. In this case get me out of the zone.  I'm praying.

If he/she says no sound check is needed, shows how 'inexperienced or uninformed' he/she is! A sound check/system check should be performed at every function! There are many variables involved! Electrical (functioning or not)! IEM system (functioning or not)! Room acoustics! Mics (functioning or not)! Cables (functioning or not)! Instruments and amps/onstage monitoring (functioning or not)! Just my humble opinion from 30+years of playing and performing!

Being honest he is completely inexpeirenced and because of that he takes it personal. He is my friend a good guy a great guy actually but he has not had and formal training in sound. Not 1 hr of tech training from a certified sound technician. He has done it because he is a willing person. That is great but that does not mean you are capable. Most Sunday's there is an issue because we have not done a complete sound check.

His willingness does not substitute for knowledge. Youcan a have a willing Deacon, A willing Usher, a willing choir member(to an extent) but not a willing Soundman. In our church that is such a hard thing to just come out say, and acknowledge without pride coming out in folks.

Well I have to spend the next hour in prayer for service. So I will update later. Folks who can pray...pray for me because i have ot address him this morning and also squash the madness from last night. We can't go forward in worship if we are not past this frustration.

God has everything in control!

Do you know when I got to church at 10am for soundcheck, the Soundguy that I had the issue wiht was not even there! So we had the chance to do a soundcheck, get additional instruction on how to use these new in-ear monitors and run through or worship songs. God has a way of moving obstacles out of the way before we even get to them. I was all worried baout how to deal with something God had already taken care of!

Just awesome The Father really looks out for us!!
