A thought from me
« on: September 06, 2006, 02:38:15 PM »
...This is LearnGospelMusic.com.  For the past six months or so, I've seen nothing but Youtube clips of everything on this board.  Yes, we've allowed a lot to come through and yes I have not watched all of them but something really bothers me.  Members are just putting whatever on here and the discussion board has turned into a youtube display or should I say, youtube junior.  No one is stating anything and all you see is clips, clips, clips.

...yes, I am one who has also posted some clips on here myself but if you notice, I always try my best to do it with respect to the board and with the attitude of helping my fellow brothers and sisters out and showing them a new way of thinking or approach to the kit.  I've learned a lot from all of you and it has helped my playing out.  I know many of you have never seen me play and many of you can totally out play me any day but I know that things I've brought to the board have helped many and for that I'm grateful.

...there was a point where we had many Pro Gospel and non Gospel drummers come through to give advice and to share knowledge and stories about playing the instrument that we love so much.  Let's get back to having a discussion board.  I'd love to see the members post clips of themselves playing so that the Vets. on here can help them out.  I'd love to see the love of God and the brother and sister hood of drummers come back to this board.

...leave the egos at home.  Let us rejoice in the Lord and let us learn from one another.

...from this point on, those of you who want to ignore and disrespect LGM and the Drummers Forum Rules will be disciplined.  I myself am tired of all of the foolishness.  Let this be a WARNING to the Drummers Forum.  When I hear things that happen on here from people I feel embarrassed.  I know I've been out but we will make sure that this board gets cleaned up quick.  Either you abide by the already stated rules or go to Pearl or Evans or DrummerWorld Forums.  God Bless You All.

Thanks JFunky. Good words of advice. I may take you up on that offer of critiquing us.

Good word J. But, the mods have got to be consistant when it come to questionable clips that are posted and step in and take action. The reason why J. Moss posted that thread was because someone posted a clip featuring Gearald Heyward w/ Mary J. Blige song "Let's get it Crunk". That was a not a smart clip to post of Gerald, because of the rules and lyrical content.. Someone posted Beyonce's whole MTV concert as a learning clip. ... Not too smart, especially after all that mess with the other thread. So people need to use common sense when posting clips on a website that is a Gospel website. Think before you post...

You have to wremember that there is anywhere from 600 to 1000 messages posted PER DAY on this message board.  Even with a team of Moderators, questionable post can slip through since we all have jobs and families to take care of.

We also have to understand that stylistically though gospel music pulls from various other genres, gospel music lacks clips that teach these things thoroughly. 4hisglory has allowed a CERTAIN amount of leaway BUT... as JFunky has pointed out people have gotten away from purpose and gotten out of hand.

Good observation and concern BEATBOXERZ. Appreciated.

That was me.  Well I put up a link to an AOL concert in Japan.  I did it because of the certain amout of leeway.  There were topics about her band, and her drummers, so while my intentions were good, my judgment was poor.  My bad!!  :P It happnes to everybody!!  And for the record I PM'd a mod and asked them to remove it!   I did not see the thread that you guys are talking about.  Trust me I would not have put that out had I known so please charge it to my internet provider not my heart.   ;)  Good tallk,  Noted and it will not happen again, atleast not from me.  8)

I do agree with the discussion part has gone lacking to clips and stupid arguments about stuff on You Tube! BUT not all clips are bad!!!! Well it use to be much nicer in here before all this petty crap came down, and guess what! You can kick all who you want out for voicing their opinions, but without us there's no LGM!

As stated before, we do not kick folks off for stating there opinions.   And yes, with out the 80,000 members there wouldn't be an LGM.

Honestly, most of us are grown adults....Let's grow up. If a mod has to hold your hand and tell you what to post then you should not post anything. Here is a simple suggestion, if you are posting something that the mods might not like, just send a pm of the clip and let them tell you if it is ok. Me personally I like those big time drummers but I would rather see LGM's drummers  getting down on the set sharing what they know.

Couldn't have said it better myself...  And let me add this. Most of the clips that are posted are OK, even if they are not in a classic chruch setting, I still learn from them. But, It happen yesterday, someone post a Justin Timberlake clip of Sexy Back just because John Blackwell was the drummer... You can't do that folks, common sense should tell you that. and trust me, I'm not the " If you listen to POP music, you're going to hell type". BUT, you can't post that stuff here, PERIOD. You can't do that in a conventional church, so why here? Man just use common sense when you decide to post a clip. And you right Keys10, we need to represent LGM with IN HOUSE talent and post our own clips of our playing. I'm guilty of not posting a clip, But I WILL FOR SURE, I broke my digital video camera and am getting it repaired.  God Bless ya, man, relax and Bless each other and Bless GOD.
