What is the first step before recording a cd?

what are some steps or things that I need to do for my chior can start recording our own cd
We already have three songs. But  Iwant to go in the studio and just work on those three songs and then go from there

So If you have suggestions please let me know.

Start doing intros and all that stuff for those 3 songs.

Write more songs.

UNLESS YOU HAVE SOME TYPE OF CONNECTION TO WHERE STUDIO TIME IS FREE (which alot of people do now-a-days) I WOULD WAIT UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED ALL OF YOUR SONGS. THIS WAY YOU HAVE MORE TIME FOR PUBLICITY, MARKETING, ECT.

AND DON'T JUST GO INTO THE STUDIO JUST BECAUSE YOUR EXCITED ABOUT RECORDING. GIVE IT SOME TIME YO. DON'T CHEAT YOURSELF OUT OF USABLE PERFECTION TIME BECAUSE, YOU AREN'T GOING TO BE ABLE TO PERFECT ANYTHING IN THE STUDIO BEFORE YOU RECORDING.

ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS. STUDIO TIME IS VALUABLE, COSTLY, AND IT CAN BECOME STRAINING.


YOU SHOULD WANT THE CHOIR TO FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE PRATICED THE SONGS ENOUGH TIMES TO WHERE THEY CAN JUST GO INTO THE STUDIO AND KNOCK THE WHOLE CD OUT IN ONE DAY. AND DO EACH SONG IN 1-3 FULL TAKES. NO PUNCH-INS. lol

I agree with TheReturn. You want to get in as much practice as you can before you try to head into the studio. Then you also have to think about your musicians. They are going to need studio time as well. Unless you are working with just one producer.

First thing though, get those 3 songs down as much as you can. I take it that you are only trying to do a demo of some sort?
