heads denting????

well im not sure wats going on cuz this has never happened to me before but ive found that my 10 inch and 12 inch tom's heads are getting minor dents in them.... is this because of it being a 1 ply head or because im jus hitting too hard??

On the real though my dawg, it's because the heads are tuned much tighter than the rest of the heads, so there's not as much of a cushion for the stick to dig into

exactly my first thoughts....

More expressly make sure that you tips/beads of the the sticks aren't chip and just digging in to the head. that is what causes these dents for me 95% of the time - a chip tip.

You guys leave the ni**a alone! Yo I cant play single ply heads on my toms cause they would only last me one show! Look at what you have changed sticks, heads, even tom tilt can cause that !

ight well my tips arent chipped, my heads arent tight there actually on the looser side, i dont hit super hard, and my toms are flat but i guess jus what happens it a single ply head. i was just makin sure i wasnt the only one this has happened to. (i thought it was my technique and i wanted to make sure it wasnt)

Nino, what size sticks are you using? The bead will make a huge diffference. And like BBD stated, single ply heads on toms is a no no in most cases unless you want that real open hollow sound for straight ahead jazz. I hit hard when I'm playing Pop style music ( R&B, Rock, Hip Hop, etc ). Gopsel too. I may dent them a little over time, but not to the point where I have to change them every week.  Are you using G1's on your toms? If so Switch to a 2 ply head. It may help, but dents happen Lil man.

i use the vic firth jack de johnete signatures and the sd2 bolero's. and  yes i have G1's but only because they came on the  kit.......

Beatboxerz is right.  Just jump up to a G2.  You won't be dissapointes.  I used the Jack for a long time and played the G-Deuces.  Give them a shot.  You also might want to look into the EC2's.
