« on: September 23, 2006, 01:41:10 PM »
I'm trying to expand my mind I wanna listen to more records and different types of records in any genre I want to be able to play any cause I like play different ones and hearin them. I also want to know records that have good drumming on it doesn't have to be gospel alone I could only go so far wit that. I want to start building up a collection of music a library for a drummer. Any suggestion if you canunderstand what I mean?

Well im probably not the best guy to answer this, cuz im 18 and still growing musically, but I would suggest finding drummers(gospel or otherwise) that you like, then just find out what they've played on. Guys like Vinnie and Dennis have been on so much stuff, you just gotta find drummers you appreciate. Hope it helps some...
Just play music...

These are some of my more recent purchases:

Dennis Chambers Planet Earth

John McLaughlin Tokyo Live, Dennis is on this one too.  He's playing more straight-ahead.  A nice piece in the collection

CAB4.  Dennis is also on this joint.  This is probably my favorite of the three Dennis albums that I've just purchased.

Nu Jynisis.  Stanley Randolph is holding it down on this one.  He's not doing much chopping, but its still a solid album overall.  Its nice to see young cats creating music.

Meshell Ndegeocello Comfort Woman.  This is my favorite Meshell album hands down.  Spirit of Jamia was cool and I recommend it but this one is truly off tha chain!

Check these out.

Holla left.

I love it when you guys share your listening list. Some of you have some really good taste and exposure. I learn something everytime this comes up.

1. Ignacio Berroa "Codes" - Afro Cuban and Jazz.  Some tracks are straight ahead Jazz.  This CD was reviewed 4.5 stars out of 5 by Modern Drummer Mag.

2.  Victor Bailey "Low Blow" - drummers Omar Hakim and Dennis Chambers.

3.  Dave Weckl Band "Synergy", "Perpetual Motion", "Live and Very Unplugged", "Multiplicity". - Dave Weckl on drums of course.

4. Vital Information "Come on In" - Steve Smith on drums.  Off the hook!!!

5.Martha Munizzi "The Best is Yet to Come", "No Limits Live" - Cledell King on the first one and Calvin Rodgers on No Limits Live. Very tasteful drumming on these.

6. Darwin Hobbs "Worshipper" - Jeremy Haynes on drums showing us how to play in a worship setting.  Crazy!!!

...and many others that I can't think of right now.
