November issue of Modern Drummer

This is one of the most educational issues in a LONG time!!  The cover story is Brad Wilk.  For those of you who don't know, he is the drummer for Audioslave and formerly of Rage Against the Machine.  For those of you who don't know, you better get up on game.  This cat has groove. 

The highlight of this issue is the Joe Morello feature.  Joe has written 2 books (Master Studies, and Master Studies II), played with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and is a technical GURU!  He discusses some of the stuff from his book and provides great insight into playing and developing technique.  For those of you looking to work on your hands, this is something that you need to check out.

There is even something for all you SHOUT drummers.  There is an educational piece on playing the Blast Beat.  This is rock and roll's version of shout music.  Check this stuff out man!  This is stuff that can be applied to ANY style of music!!

For you jazzers in the house, check out the Style and Analysis of Tony Williams.....  Nuff said! 

DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS STUFF!!!  It can be applied to MANY different styles of music.  Knowledge is power...  For those of you that need more push to expand yourselves, the more stuff you know, the more money you can make!!  Now lets get educated and re-claim our instruments!!!

...I agree.  Off the hook.  I got my copy real early.  (Subscription)  My copy came with a DVD trailer to Stewart Copeland's "The Police" Documentary which is already out.  I heard that the copies at the stores don't have it.

For those of you that don't know Joe Morello made playing in 5/4 time famous wit hthe Dave Brubek classic Take Five. Let it also be know that Joe Morello has been 85% blind since childhood. He is "legally blind" and none of us can touch him on the tubs. THae mna is well in his 80s and just realised a new drum method book! What does that tell you?

i am actually getting to go see the dave brubeck quartet in december. i am so excited to hear them. they have a new drummer named randy jones. he is british and he can swing.
