I was in an Ordination service last week, and a guitar player from another church got up to play with us.

Oh...Sweet...Jesus.

Homeboy turned up his guitar LOUD.  Our bass player asked him to turn it down, and he would.....for 3 minutes.  Then he'd turn it back up.   >:(

Not only that but he sounded TERRIBLE.  I looked at the bass player and mouthed "what is he DOING?!?!".  He was like: "I don't know.  I told him to turn it down.   :("

Have you ever played with someone who tried to make sure the church heard them more than anybody else?

I personally never played with another musician that does that, but i definitly seen it happen in other churches!!!  It be annoing when your praising God and all you hear is one instrument and you cant even here the main musicians like the drums or the key board or bass I guess thats my PET PEEVE!!! (how ever you spell it)

The church I use to go, the key player had the keyboard to the max and the guitar player had his volume low. Now before I stopped going there the key player's brother played guitar and both instruments were loud. Very annoying. The key player plays the keyboard like if it were a guitar, so both instruments were crashing with each other.

Whoa.  He turned off his amp?   :D  :D  :D

From the responses, I guess this is a common thing with guitar players.  I say we all take a little trip over to the guitar forum!

Guitar players generally have there pedal board set up to crank out for solos so when they hit it is stands out. That can be a problem in churches that are not really use to a lead guitarist or ususally have the guitar play copping the keys.

Now a lot of guitarists have hearing damage and turn things up to hear themselves or feel the notes coming from the amp. GUys use to playing with double stacks don't seem to do well with half stacks or running through the house. They need to feel the amp beating against them. Same with a lot of bass players. Low tones do a lot of damage to the hearing and these guys really don't know or some don't want to admit that they cannot hear.

Yeah I think the season of drummers being too loud are over! :D :D

I've had severe issues with bass and lead guitars lately.  It's bad enough that you're loud and then you want to play notes that don't even belong in the key we're in...........

Man..  My Minister of Music plays too loud EVRY FLIPPIN SUNDAY!  This guy is NUTS!!  He is always telling me that he can't hear my foot, but his head is right by my bass drum!  He gets to playin and gruntin and hummin....  This joka plays everyones parts (poorly) every single Sunday.  The Deconess' used to sit in front of the musicians stand...  Not anymore.  he blasted them 3 rows back.  Then this joka has the stones to turn around and tell our organist that he can't hear him and bark at the sound man because he says that he can't hear the choir.  And the sad part about it is that everyone else is too loud (accept for the organ and the choir) but him.  Go fig...

My biggest problem with our youth groups & their bands is trying to get our guys to turn themselves UP!
Their all beginners & aren't too confident so I have to try & get them to crank up their confidence BEFORE suggesting that
they even crank up the volume ::)

Anyway, I'd probably be like BBD... Actions speak louder than words. I'd just turn down his volume for him. ;D

You need to fight entering that 'zone' of yours. It seems it always disrupts things...

...you're not lying.  This is strike two.  If I read one more "Zone" post, I'm going to give him "The Look" and say, "It's his fault that the band got off time. ;D ;D ;D
