The little pishna I know I have mentioned this book before
I am revisiting it now and it is kicking my butt but Its a great book
similar to hanon in that it is different finger exerxises each one a little different then the one before it
but there are some real serious diferences
first
The left hand is playing different notes different sequences and in a different rhythym then the left
second you repeat each move four times then you moduate
this forces you to not get comfortable with the key but comfortable with the sound and the finger spacing exactly what needs to happen when you learn a new song
second there are two variations of each drill fast and slow being clean and even is the order of the day here and if you can play little pishna clean you are well on your way to virtuaoso technique
Five
I have found that if you play with the rhythyms you can create different kinds of vamps
six
and this is very important the starting notes vary you may start on a in the left hand and e in the right hand then the next exerxise starts on d in the right hand and f in the left hand
this requires you to really think about the key and the scale relationships
there is no way that you can play pishna and not walk away with a stronger ability to play in every key.
Shirmers press
The Little pishna
48 practice pieces for the piano
P.s There is a big pishna too
its called pishna 60 exercises for the piano but unless you are already playing beetohoven and mozart start with the little pishna
and you dont have to read that well to play this book
as long as you know where the notes are each exercise is only one measure long
if you take this approach to learning a new song before you drill to get comfortable with the song in its original key but as soon as you get the hang of it instantly modualte the song this way the new key is no more comfortable then the original key so you get comfortable with the sound not the key
so the next time you learn a new song instead of first practicing for excellence with the song work for excellence in modualtion.
Pishna will definitely help in this

Thanks for the info. Definitely, I appreciate the info you have posted in the past.
BTW, the correct spelling for the book is The Little Pischna. Had to google the name since Amazon couldn't find it. This is for anyone reading this.
