I don't listen to alot of ole skool Gospel, but I would guess learning Blues Scales and Progressions would fit with alot of Ole Skool.

The only song I know goes:   LIKE A SHIP that's tossed, and driven... "The Lord will make a way somehow".

Its a basic 1 - 3 - 5 (12 Bar Blues type song)

Can't remember how the song progresses right now... but basically, here is the pattern

 |--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------
 |--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------
 |--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------
 |----3--|--------|--------|---5---|--------|--------|--------|--------
 |--------|----1--|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------

So if it is in the Key of C#  You start with the C#major listed above.

Pay the 1 - 3 - 5  Then when the song progresses, to another note, play the same Pattern except in that note.

It will be had to explain, without a audio track.  Because what tab, and this fretboard diagram doesn't take into account is rhythm.  I will try and get a audio
posted. for you.
