Musicyo.com - No More Tobias Toby Pros
« on: November 14, 2006, 06:22:36 AM »
I guess I wated too durn late. Somebody on the board a while back turn us on to this website. They use to carry the discontinued Tobias (original) Toby Pro 4 & 5 string. Well, I was VERY sadden when I check the other day and they don't even have ANY more Tobys on the website. I really wanted an original Tobias.

Does anybody know of another site that may carry the Toby Pro 5 strings? I mean, musicyo.com had the for $660. I know that price will be hard to find. And it was brand new. Can't even find that price on eBay. Friends, if you know of a spot, hit a brother up and let me know where to go. I guess I gotta save up for an MTD or a Ken Smith now.

Gosh, why did our craft have to be so expensive, lol...

They were not the original Tobias bass. They were always a budget line that Gibson had made in Korea. Actually well made basses with a pre-amp that was lacking a bit. The deluxe line were bolt-ons with J style p/u's. The Pro line were neck-throughs with soap bar style p/u's!

MikeGee,

I'm not understanding your comment: It's expensive cause I(or anybody else for that matter) wanted it to be expensive.

1st off, I know that with quality comes the price. So therefore my comment was made jokingly. 2nd, I don' think none of us want things to be expensive. So again, I don't understand your comment.

the only way right now to get them is used at your local guitar center or other local chain, ebay always has them. however i would say check out the new MTD Z series basses (basscentral.com is offering the 4 string for $800.00 and the 5 string for $875.00 brand new, keep in mind these prices were qouted to me while i was in the store) i was going that route but im going with a custom bass thru dpcustom.

I forgot to mention that musicyo.com is a Gibson Music Instruments website and they were the only ones who sold these basses new! Gibson aquired the Tobias brand name.

Not sure of the exact reason Gibson discontinued the line but "my own speculation" was folks were buying these and then trading/selling them to unsuspecting music stores/buyers who thought these were the higher quality models!
