T.I Jazz Flats
« on: November 21, 2006, 02:52:28 PM »
Last night my T.I Jazz flats came in and this morning I strung up the btb with them.

All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

Man these strings are AMAZING.  THey have that smooth low down groove sound for those slow woship songs and if you roll back the bass and mids a bit and bump the trebble you get a nice slap tone.  Now I wont' lie, you won't get the same ear piercing tone you get from round wounds when slapping, but they sound GOOD.  My D'addario xl170-sl's (in stainless steel) had a MEAN pop to them, but they couldn't get mellow like these jazz flats.  It just wasn't possible.  Not to mention you don't get any finger sound off the strings.

I'll probably just leave this set on this bass until they either break of the bass burns.  No way their coming off.

The string tension is about the same as my D'addario xl170-sl as well, so no worries about breaking your fingers tryign to pluck them.  Just an awesome string!!!!

If you have the cahs I say you need to try these out ASAP!!!  They're definately not cheap, but more then worth it and kick the tial of all the other strings i've tried.

I got them used for $50 off of talkbass.com

Brand new they run around $80 bucks.

Today was my first service with them and I was REALLY suprised at how well they cut through.  IT was reaaly amazing.

I have them on a '78 Jazz bass that's mid-rangey as is, but with the TI flats on it has this tone that's horrible to listen too by itself, but live cuts through unbelievably and with an awesome tone.  We did the American Royal BBQ contest for a national outfit and all around us were disc jockeys and other bands, and this thing just sort of hopped up on top and floated around on everything else.  I never touched a volume knob, but all night th rest of the band accused me of turning up because their instruments were being masked by all the chaos and this thing held its own.

I think vintagebass.com (the dudepit) has them pretty reasonably.

what is the attraction with flat wound, my friend loves them, but when I play his bass it is just to subdued for me there is no punch to it, or maybe it was just his brand of strings (D'addario). For me it is the DR highbeams all the way, peace!

my first thing i noticed was how smoothe they felt. Next i noticed I don't get that zipping sound on slides and chaning position.  Then the tone.  If you know how to EQ them you can really cut through and lay down a MEAN tone.  I'm still amazed at how they cut through.

I'm probably not experiencing this because I have a 18v pre amp with Vari-mid. I can dial in a simply terribe soudning tone though...lol, but why woul i do that...hahaha
