Tithing and Debt (pastor arrested part 2)
« on: November 30, 2006, 01:07:36 PM »
Here's a link to an article on tithing and debt. I think this ties in to the pastor arrested topic. I find this interesting in the days when people are being asked to tithe, double tithe, and triple tithe, on top of offerings, by some churches.

You can't love God and money but that's all that some love to talk about.

I'm not trying to turn this into a "who tithes or not" topic.

Here's the question: What do you think people should do first, tithe or pay their bills?

Definitely tithe first, cuz if paying your tithes interferes with your bills, chances are you are living beyond your means and u need to cut back on some stuff.  Plus, if u don't give God his money, He will take it in other ways.  So, it's better to give it up right away, cuz God gonna get his moeny anyway.

My pastor speaks about doing the 10 10 80 plan. That is: Tithe your 10%, Save your 10%, and live off of the remaining 80%.  ;)

Amen!

God prefer that you give freely & willingly. However, if you choose not to, he will get his one way are another. You wonder why that car broke down this week, and then the air conditioning went out next week, then the electricity was double what it usually is, then a sudden emergency doctor bill----- Yep, God get his!

I agree with everything you said except for the notion that God get's His money from you even if you don't give it.

Scripturally, the bible says "The Devourer" will drain your funds

Malachi 3:10, 11:

10     Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

11     And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

I think pretty much everybody with any Spiritual Maturity will tell you to pay your tithe first.  It's scriptural.

Will a man rob God?   :-\

How is life going with you paying your bills before your tithe?

That is awesome! LOL...  ;D

My life is great... I am blessed beyond anything I could have ever dreamed up on my own. My Lord, my family, my career, my music...

As far as the whole "who tithes or not" topic, like I said when I started this thread, that's not the purpose of this thread and so I don't want to hijack it with my own personal views on that.

I was just curious how those on LGM felt about it after my wife showed me that article I linked to.

I use to be like "TIITTTHEEEE??  Are you crazy, I can barely EAT as it is!!!"  But one day I trusted God and started titheing and life has been so much better.

Trusting the Lord is always the best thing we can do. He'll never let us down! Amen to that testimony!

Proverbs 3:9-10
Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

God wants His first. Uncle Sam, Federal, and Fica takes theirs before you get yours, God does not operate like them because He wants to see who can be trusted to do it own their own. Also for those who may not be sure on the correct way to tithe, it is off of the gross income not the net income.

I dont know how others do but I wouldn't. Filing your tithes on your taxes, you're really not giving anything because you're getting it back. I don't file.
