Got my Conklin S.I.T. Strings
« on: April 18, 2006, 08:27:34 AM »
I just got the SIT strings that I ordered from Conklin, for my 8-string. I have to say that they sound pretty nice, and I like the feel of the thinner gauge strings on the A-F strings. They seem really quiet too. I was even able to do some slap stuff on them!

The string gauges are:

F# - .165
B - .135
E - .110
A - .080
D - .055
G - .035
C - .025
F - .018

I'm definately getting me another set to keep in my bag! ;D ;D

congrats.  you should be able to play 4 part harmony at the same time, with all those strings.

Hey B3, I don't know if we talked about this before or not, but I am looking to get a Conklin GT-BD7 in the next month or so.
I would like to tune it F#-C. I saw those strings on Conklins site. Do you think they will be sufficient. Also, will my rig be up to those low notes from F#-Bb on that string.. Lemme know. Thanks

These strings really are hot, dude!...I'm still a beginner, but I can still hear that they have some good sound. I've been practicing a lot of chording and tapping on it...but mostly chording.

The string gauges are:

F# - .165
B - .135
E - .110
A - .080
D - .055
G - .035
C - .025
F - .018

is it just me or does that seem like a super thick B string and super thing G string?
Somebody put me in the key of E#

The F#, B, and E strings are thicker than usual...yea. The rest are smaller than the normal, medium, guage. You could say that it's a mixture of heavy and light guage strings.

Hey B3, I finally got a BDGT-7. I'll rehearse with it tonight for the first time.

I have a question about the snakeskins. After using them for a while do you still like them? I plan to get a set from F#-C.

Also how low do you have your action? I think that for a 7-stringer I will set them up real low for some tapping and chording as well as the usual finger and slap stuff.

I don't have the Snakeskins. I have the Power Steels. They only have "sets" from B-C, but you can buy the extra F# string, as you know already. I'm kind of used to the 8 now, but I think I'm going to 7, so I don't have to spend 100 dollars on strings.
