http://www.callowhill.net/basses/MF5/

Hey, has anyone played one of these basses? The MF5 Looks pretty versitle.  Callowhill has built their basses with input from gospel bassists.  What do you think?  I'd really love to play one...

I've played Maurices.  His 6 string feels like it weihts 7lbs MAX

Very comfortable and fast.  If i could afford one I'd pick it up.

Callowhill even visits here sometime.  I don't think he's made any posts, but he said he wanted to chime in, so maybe this is a way for him to speak up :-)
Somebody put me in the key of E#

LOLS... no I don"t know Callowhill personally.  I would love to play one.  Does it have that Ken Smith tone?  I"m in Raleigh, NC so I am trying to figure out how I can play a Callowhill...
I currently play a Schector; it has a good tone, but not a lot of distinct variation.

My boy Jamareo is suppose to be getting one through Callowhill.  I've checked out their basses.  If I had the money I would get a bass from all of the big name luthiers.

Uh oh!  I knew a post would end up here sooner or later.  I read the posts on this site quite a bit as the info and concerns of players here helps me to make better instruments.

I wrote to Jeremy awhile back about posting here as someone who could answer tech questions.  I don't feel comfortable "promoting" my brand because I get to play tons of basses by many talented builders, and they're all wonderful instruments.  Mine are just different I guess, kind of like a gallery if ten different painters hit the same subject.  Or maybe, ten different bass players interpreting the same song.  We all strive for a common vision but the outcome is different.

I was at Ken Smith's shop this morning, as I buy much of my lumber from him.  He's a very cool guy, and I stood by as he set up a bass before ship out.  I view his basses as defining the "hi-fi" sound.  Very accurate, crisp and clean.  The moment he hit a note it was a Smith.  My stuff is different at the core, super raw, dirty and mean sounding.  I come at the basses from an old school Fender vibe and add modern tone shaping capabilities to the foundation.  Not for everyone I guess.  I suppose my instruments could sound similar through the right gear, but they aren't desined that way.  That's Ken's bag and I stay away - it's a respect thing I guess.  Plus, I just like mean, nasty sounding basses!  (Ken's are plenty mean 'n nasty too though)

Jamareo is a trip.  If you know him, you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.  Crazy.

Anyway, I appreciate the mention on the site.  Basically, if anyone has any tech questions be it on a commercial bass or a handmade one, or you just want a knowledgable opinion with regards to trouble shooting or modifications - you're welcome to hit me up.  Sometimes I'm slow to reply courtesy of the workload here but I'll do my best to help out.

-Tim

Yes he is.  BTW, Tim can you send me a bass. ;D  Jamareo and I are from the same hometown, Wilson NC.  Just give it to him and he knows how to reach me.  We talk on a constant "basses". (pun intended) ;D ;D
