I disagree with the main post. Do I think sheds get out of hand? Yes. There is nothing wrong with sheds. If you want to get technical there are many things we do that necessarily do not glorify God but God has given them to us for our enjoyment. Sports are not necessarily to the glory og God but some atheletes glorify him in their playing. Even is a shed was just to come together and practice or just to have fun there is nothing wrong with that. I know the new school preachers say I dont want to do anything that is not giving God glory but people take that out of context. Maybe we dont need to do certain sheds in the house of God.  I want to say more but Im not going to right now.

Mendoza's comments posed the views of a lot of educated drummers have because the term 'Shed' is perverted. It comes rom woodshed Woodshed = a private place of discipline. 'Shed by todays youth is a party and that is NOT WHAT THE POINT OF IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. What you are doing i jamming not practicing.
- Practice happens in private
- lessons require a teacher and a student(s)
- you rehearse as an organized group meeting
- you perform as a ensemble/band/orchestra
- you jam as musians, brothers/sisters/friends

Problem is is that the lines have been blurred and folk have been acting out in the wrong context at the wrong time.
Would-be musicians are taking being a musician as a joke and it is an insult to those whom have stayed the course.

If you work as unto the LORD, HE gave talens according to thier several abilities, Seek wisdom it is the principle thing, Study and show your self approved, learn the statutes (especially when afflicted), You will prove: that wisdom and knowledge are te stability of thy times and the strength of thy salvation. But first you have to choose to try the proven standard.
What has been said in this thread by some has actually defamed your Christian tetimonies. Watch what you say/write. As the saying goes, "You may be the only Bible someone ever reads."

well ive been scoping this thread and i guess ill throw in my two cents i think it can be serious but when I "shed" its not a competition or anything its me and my friends just getting together jammin getting a chance to play wild becuz in church(our churchs) we gotta play straight no CRAZY fills i feel that shedding is the time you can get together and have fun. i have been to a couple sheds where it was a competition i feel that is wrong the talent god gave us shouldn be displayed like that"whos better then who" i thought shedding was kinda like playing together i mean u can also work on beat displacements and things like that but my personal feeling is if u have the right state of mind that its just for fun then you straight but when it becomes a battle or a competition then i feel THATS when it gets out of line but hey.... im young i may be totally off

Your comments prove my point that rather than considering the the fullness of what being a musician is and means you would rather lash out in ignorance. When comments/teachings are presented to increase ones understandings and as seed for growth you would choose to "jack up" a thread and take the attention away from learning to address your personal issues of what music doesn't mean to you. There is no place for that now just as it wasn't before, Sheen. The fact is if you ever actually study music and being a musician you would find that music and the arts in general hold a high position of responsibility in society. Which is highly lacking today due to limited knowledge, miseducation and misplaced unfounded self-righteous indignation. Instead of being the rebellious spirit allow the students and connoisseurs to enjoy the sharing of thought provoking view points and lessons in craftsmanship.  As well as maintaining a stature or uprightness in their kingdom service.
