All I know is that "James Brown and Bobby Byrd's sister Sarah performed in a gospel group called "The Gospel Starlighters" from 1955. Eventually, Brown joined Bobby Byrd's group the Avons, and Byrd turned the group's sound towards secular rhythm and blues."

I didn't see the funeral, but I'm sure that he got a good send off.

I saw the funeral and kept thinking he deserved BETTER. It was very poorly planned and very disorganized.  What is the beef with his wife(not legal I have heard)?

As I understand it, she was still legally married to someone else when she married him.  She claims it was all fixed, but I guess she's gonna have a fight on her hands.

I think the "Real" Funeral was a Private one held at a church for family and friends only. the public one was more of a concert/celebration. that's the way i understood it anyway. They claimed that james would have wanted it that way

I know I may get some flack from some of ya'll..... but.....

I think that funerals are a personal thing. I have never really thought of them to be a televised event.... or a concert. Over the years, Lisa Lopes, Aaliyah, Levert, Luther, Barry and James Browns' funerals have had some form of publicity to them.

I agree with you Redd that it was poorly organized.... But again, I seriously dont agree with it being televised. Uncle Stanley up there dancin, and the concert setting. It was awkward to me.... Thats just MHO... Please be gentle with me in your responses ;D ... LOL.

I knew Mr. James Brown personally my father was a body guard of his in the 60's.  He and I was members at a church in Elko, SC  about 10 miles out of Barnwell called St. Peter  Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Alvin C. Settles the pastor.  He would attend mostly on first Sundays every other month or so when he was in the area and sometimes sing Sunday mornings.  I was disappointed in the fact it was not mentioned or St.Peter was not reconized along with Rev Settles but a good friend of JB lives in Williston and she and Rev. Settles did attend the proceedings on friday. The church members attended Saturday.  If he ever moved letters and changed churches I am not sure but, that is where he attended church.

The situation with Toni was she was married to a man in Texas and leagally separated and never got a divorced. Once she got the divorce she never remarried James.  They did not live together, she lived in the house down the road from the main house.  But you know how it is when people die the family come in and ravage the belongings trying to get what they can famous or not that is why the gate was pad locked for everyone not just her.  She just made a big issue out of it
Thanks LaQuanda

For me the funeral had it's moments.  Some powerful, and some kinda  :o.  His daughter dancing was a trip to me.  I understand Hammer dancing.  James Brown was his number one influence.  If you remember, JB was in the  "2 Legit 2 Quit" video.  That was big when JB showed up.  James Brown was highly respected in his hometown.  I think they just wanted to give the public something that they may never see again.  The part that touched me was when the hype man put the cape over the back of the casket.  That actually choked me up a little because it was so final.  I really am a big fan of JB.  I mean I have a JB ringtone on my cell phone that I downloaded right after I bought my phone.  I have never changed it since that day.  I bump JB in the car when these young cats are playing all of this other crazy stuff.  Thre simple fact that CNN televised this shows the man's impact in music.  He influenced many, but there will never be another.
When you've done your very best, do even better.

I think it was a hot, boiling, steaming mess. I'm sorry, but that's what I think. It just seemed to make a mockery of God. I didn't know James Brown, but all I'm saying is don't have all of this sinful mess going on and then try to sugar coat is with God. Saying that James Brown is in heaven directing the heavenly choir and throwing a huge party is a shame before God. SHAME ON THEM!!!
