Sheila E's Ranking among the GREATEST Active Drummers

I and another LGMer differ in our views of Sheila E.

I won't express my viewpoint because I don't want anyone to be biased.

Do you think Sheila E. is among the Top 5 Active Drummers?

Yes or No.

If "No", is she top 10, top 20, top 50, top 100?

I don't even think she's in the top 5 of Spanish descent.

That's just me, of course. I know their are plenty who'd disagree with me; but just because a thousand people are in agreement, doesn't make it a truth. She obviously has talent, but I never got what all the fuss was about.

...this is too broad.  She is very good though.  I respect what she does.

...Now, in the Latin Community, she is not top 5.  Top 20, yes but not 5. 




Sidenote:  The guy that is killin' the Latin scene is Dafnis Prieto.

She's not in the top 5 for me as far as playing mabey top 50. But shes in my top 2 most beautiful percusionists list... kim Thompson is the pther one!!! LOL!

I think Shelia is in the top 20 ACTIVE drummers. She's not just a percussionist, but she can play drums very well. Her last album was sick.

Yeah Vet, you know my thoughts on this already...

Top 5 active drummer? No. Not even remotely.
Top 5 active percussionist? No/maybe... more so top 10.

She is fine & rates in my top 20 list.

More importantly, does that detract from what she has achieved in her career? NO.

The thread asked for "drummers" specifically.  Is everybody understanding the question?

I can't even put her in the top 100 of active drummers.  I've just heard so many well-rounded drummers who I'd hire before her to lay down a shed track.  However, if we're making a video, I'll consider Sheila E. for the top 10 for that job because she's cute.  My guess is that's a major reason Prince hired her.

Top 5? NO!!!!!!!!! Not even in the top 100 in my opinion. But she a very nice lady and she's still very pretty. Her hands are soft too ., She's starting to show her age, but she's still fine.

                  MAGIC JOHNSON,thought enough of her,to make her,his  LEADER of his band.
                    To say,that PRINCE, PUT HER IN HIS BAND,because she is cute,my brother that is got to the craziest thing i ever HEARD.We are talking about PRINCE,like him or not,one of the greatest  of our time.Prince think too much of his music,to put someone in his band because of cuteness.Is John Blackwell cute?Prince could have his chose of anyone.So to end this,if she was good enough for mAGIC and PRINCE,no one on this site,is worthy of putting her down.This is the only comment i we make, on this,after all,she will be playing at the half time of the superbowl,evrybody on this site will be watching RIGHT.GOD BLESS ALL

We all should slow down and take the time to understand threads before we post.

First, the original post asked to rank Sheila E. amongst "active drummers".  He says it in both the title and the original post.  It's deliberate.  Take a look.  The original post doesn't say anything about percussionists.  I didn't make the thread.  So, don't get mad at me for ranking Sheila E. amongst active drummers.

Second, if Sheila E. looked like me or Bruh Man from Martin, she would not have been hired by either Prince or Magic.  Yes, she has skills as a percussionist.  At the same time, her looks add a level of marketability to her resume that other drummers can't match.  Both Prince and Magic are about entertainment.  Their companies put out products that are both visually pleasing and entertaining.  Thus, Sheila E. was the natural hire because of her combination of skills and looks.

By the way, I think that half the disagreements on LGM could be eliminated if people would just stick to the point of the thread.

Prince selected her because of the way she played and because he wanted an all "girl" band that could play.  You guys are too funny.  Let's not waste energy over these things.  She's "Active" and working and doing well.  That's really all that matters.

Again, that's missing the point of the thread.  We're just ranking her to get an idea of what kind of skills people think would make a top ranked drummer.  Nobody's putting her down.  I personally would like to know what other people think so that I can gauge my judgment of talent.

It's hard to have discussions around here without people getting overly defensive.
