I know. . . I know.!! I've retired from this site more than Jordan, Ali, and Roy Jones, Jr. put together. But I just had to tell somebody about this.
Man, I was at Guitar Center Saturday just picking up some routine drum equipment for my church when I happened to look over at a Carribean blue Grestch Catalina all-birch kit. On the top of the kit I saw a little sign that had a description of something on it and it said $27.70. I looked a little closer and it was attached to the 8x7" tom on top of the kit. I walked up to the counter and asked what that sign was all about and the sales guy told me he didn't know. He looked it up and it was TRUE!!!! The tom was 8x7 and it was going for under $30!!!!!
Needless to say I scooped it up. When I was checking out, they brought out another one to see if I would rather have that one (it had a better batter head on it). I told them that was okay, I would just get the first one. When I checked out, I told my little brother about the deal I got. He asked, "Since you have more than one kit, why didn't you get both of them?"
I ran back in, bought the other one. When I got home, I looked in the box. . . there was a free clamp and tom mount that came with it!!!
I had been trying to figure out what I was going to do about expanding my kit, and how I was going to budget to get an 8" tom for my set and God just dropped 2 in my lap with a tom mount for less than what one tom would have really cost me!!!!!!!
God is good!!! So right now, I have a carpenter looking at the toms. He's going to charge me a total (not each, but the total) of $35 to sand the high gloss lacquer off both toms (. (none of my drums are that color, but who cares when I can just re-lacquer them myself?) So, for less than the cost of that actual drum at GC. . . I got 2 AND a sanding job!!!
