Adults in America, we need a total makeover of how we teach young folks about finances. In short, we aren’t doing it nearly enough!
After some frustration with other adults in my own life, I’ve come to believe that it doesn’t do much good to talk to grown folks about financial responsibility. That may sound cynical, but I’m just speaking from my own experience. For example, when I come across an adult who's getting evicted and who’s also trying to buy new rims for their ride at the same time, I accept the idea that that adult is a lost cause. There are lots of adults who do stuff like that.
So, for 2007 and beyond, let's focus on the new generation coming up. That way, they'll have a solid mindset for finances when they become adults. As for the financially irresponsible adults, let them learn from the children coming up. Maybe that'll work.
