***NEW CONCEPT FOR LGM: THE "WORD" APPROACH TO DISCUSSIONS***
« on: February 01, 2007, 05:50:55 PM »
WE SHOULD ALL HAVE A BIBLE: LET'S LOOK AT A PASSAGE AND THEN RESPOND WITH THE WORD ONLY

A COMMON TOPIC IS " MINISTER'S GETTING PAID"

WE HAVE PRETTY MUCH AGREED THAT WE ARE ALL " MINISTER"

SO A LINE OF DEMARCATION: MINSTER'S WHO RECEIVE A SALARY OF ANY KIND FROM THE CHURCH

AGAIN WE HAVE DEFINED MINISTER ALREADY SO THIS IS ANYBODY , DEACON, EVANGELIST, WORSHIP LEADER, PASTOR, BISHOP...WHATEVER :D

OK ...

here is the "word" on this matter I COR9:3-18 USING NIV FOR SIMPLICITY

1Cr 9:3   This is my answer to those who question my authority as an apostle.*
1Cr 9:4   Don't we have the right to live in your homes and share your meals?
1Cr 9:5   Don't we have the right to bring a Christian wife* along with us as the other disciples and the Lord's brothers and Peter* do?

1Cr 9:6   Or is it only Barnabas and I who have to work to support ourselves?
1Cr 9:7   What soldier has to pay his own expenses? And have you ever heard of a farmer who harvests his crop and doesn't have the right to eat some of it? What shepherd takes care of a flock of sheep and isn't allowed to drink some of the milk?
1Cr 9:8   And this isn't merely human opinion. Doesn't God's law say the same thing?

1Cr 9:9   For the law of Moses says, "Do not keep an ox from eating as it treads out the grain."* Do you suppose God was thinking only about oxen when he said this?
1Cr 9:10   Wasn't he also speaking to us? Of course he was. Just as farm workers who plow fields and thresh the grain expect a share of the harvest, Christian workers should be paid by those they serve.
1Cr 9:11   We have planted good spiritual seed among you. Is it too much to ask, in return, for mere food and clothing?

1Cr 9:12   If you support others who preach to you, shouldn't we have an even greater right to be supported? Yet we have never used this right. We would rather put up with anything than put an obstacle in the way of the Good News about Christ.

1Cr 9:13   Don't you know that those who work in the Temple get their meals from the food brought to the Temple as offerings? And those who serve at the altar get a share of the sacrificial offerings.
1Cr 9:14   In the same way, the Lord gave orders that those who preach the Good News should be supported by those who benefit from it.

1Cr 9:15   Yet I have never used any of these rights. And I am not writing this to suggest that I would like to start now. In fact, I would rather die than lose my distinction of preaching without charge.
1Cr 9:16   For preaching the Good News is not something I can boast about. I am compelled by God to do it. How terrible for me if I didn't do it!

1Cr 9:17   If I were doing this of my own free will, then I would deserve payment. But God has chosen me and given me this sacred trust, and I have no choice.
1Cr 9:18   What then is my pay? It is the satisfaction I get from preaching the Good News without expense to anyone, never demanding my rights as a preacher.
1Cr 9:19   This means I am not bound to obey people just because they pay me, yet I have become a servant of everyone so that I can bring them to Christ.

I KNOW WE CAN ACCOMPLISH THIS -

In regard to "ministry" what is Paul saying?

Should a minister say " if you want me to "minister" I need ........$"

Does it depend on the size of the church and it's ability to handle the burden?

does it depend of the economic status of those in which we as " ministers" , minster to?

My praise to an all knowing God because I know that He knew I was wrestling with an issue that is deeply correlated with this subject. And I needed someone to come forward with a scriptural source that I could read and see for myself.

I pray that God will continue to use you as well as many others at LGM, to minister to the souls and needs of the members and guests of this site. I have learned on a different level what it means to be a member of the LGM family today. And although there may be differences of opinions at times, we should all dedicate ourselves to be used by God to help one another grow spiritually.

I believe all the answers are in His Word. Thank you for showing me where.

No thank you because I sought the Lord today and asked him to open his word to me and allow me to not just speak out of self but to try and be used in ways that I would know it was his doing and not mine. Your response made it so clear. God is an incredible God!!!

I think this is an example of iron sharpening iron. I thank God for you!!!! ;)

On the real though, I am going to bookmark the entire 9th chapter of I Corinthians because it applicable to the whole character and mindset of paid musicians such as myself. Not that I have an attitude problem but what my attitude should be when ministering with the choirs to the household of faith. Sometimes, especially when dealing with an egotistical alto (LOL) that can wreck the church with her voice , I need to remember that even though she may mention that I am paid help (Oh! Yeah! I have had to come out of a bag in the midst of rehearsal) I am there to serve. It takes some psychology and sociology knowledge mixed with an unconquering love to practice what you showed me in I Corinthians. But, I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me. Hallelujah and can I get an Amen!

We all need to remember and practice. Many musicians and ministers do not read this passage. Heck's I just read it myself yesterday ;D. But when youreally seek God and ask he always takes us right to the Word. No need for interpretation when you really want to know. The word is as clear to us as WE  want it to be.

On another note I think that is why we see so few raised to the national level. God raises them because of how they carry themselves before the  "exposure".

You hit the nail on the head when you stated, "No need for interpretation when you really want to know."
