How come it's not the C minor scale? You have a flat 3rd and a flat 7th.  ?/?

Wouldn't it be C Dorian in the key of Bb?

It wouldn't be C Doriain in the key of Bb, for the Dorian scale the first note is on the main key, the Bb Dorian scale would be: Bb, C, Db, Eb, F,G,Ab,Bb.

Then I guess the question that I have is, what is the difference between a scale and a mode?

Key of C    Dorian Scale: C,D,Eb,F,G,A,Bb,C

The notes are right Derik, but the key is wrong.  This is in the key of Bb.

Wouldn't it be C Dorian in the key of Bb?

You are correct sjon, it should be C Dorian in the key of Bb.  The dorian mode begins on the 2nd scale degree of a major scale.

Then I guess the question that I have is, what is the difference between a scale and a mode?

The difference is a mode cannot exist without a scale that it relates to.

The reason why it's not the C minor scale is because you need a b3, b6, and b7.

Hmmm...Still confused... ?/? Except about the difference between scale and mode, So what would the Dorian scale be in C and Bb?

The dorian scale begins on the 2nd scale degree of the major scale.  It has the same notes, but it starts and ends on the 2nd scale degree.

C major scale =  C  D  E  F  G  A  B  C
2nd scale degree =  D
Dorian Mode Key of C =  D  E  F  G  A  B  C  D

Bb major scale =  Bb  C  D  Eb  F  G  A  Bb
2nd scale degree =  C
Dorian Mode Key of Bb =  C  D  Eb  F  G  A  Bb  C

You get it now?
