Butch Woodie-like substitution
« on: March 05, 2007, 08:25:09 PM »
Here’s something my teacher gave me that said it’s the type of change Butch Woodie often does, I hope this makes since, the first is what you normally do and the second is the substitution. I don’t have software to convert it to audio, so I put where the beats fall for clarity.

Substitute progression for
Gb major; 4/4 time signature

Your typical turnaround change:
All quarter notes
EbBbF-GbBbDbFAb; beat 1
AbGb-CEbFBb; 2
DbBbGb-BEGb; 3
GbE-BbEbGb; 4
Resolve into: B-BbDbEbGb; 1

Newer change:

BGb(F#)A-DbEAbEb; beat 1
EB-EbGbBbDb; 2
AbGb-CEGbB; 3 (8th note)
DbGb-BEAb; and (8th note)
GbE-BbEbGb; 4 (8th note)
EbBb-DbGbGB; and (8th note)
Resolve into: AbGb-BbBEbGb beat 1

-I love these chords, you may need bigger hands, but it’s a great substitution.
All to Jesus I surrender and Humbly give my life
