Who sings this song???
« on: March 09, 2007, 12:03:20 PM »
Good afternoon, folks!

I'm new here; an acquaintance told me about the site when I asked him if he knew this song.  He thought maybe you learned folks would be able to assist.

I consider myself a bit of an expert on 80's & 90's gospel.  I know just about every song recorded in the 80's, and most of the stuff from the 90's.  Yesterday, out of the clear blue, this song popped in my head and for the life of me, I can't remember who sings it.  GRRRRR!!!!  I hate it when that happens, especially since I'm admittedly a know-it-all when it comes to gospel music.  I thought it was L.A. Mass, but I can't find it in their repertoire, so I guess I'm wrong.  If I remember correctly, we sang this song at my grandmother's church in the late 80's.  Anyway, do any of you remember it (it has a slow/medium tempo):

Choir:
For the rest of my life I will serve Him
I will not stray from His love
I won't turn back
For the rest of my life
I will serve Him forevermore

Lead:
For the rest of my life
I'm gonna serve the Lord
I shall not stray, I'm not gonna stray from His love
Even though Satan tempts my soul
I am determined, I am determined to reach my goal
I got a made up mind
And I'm going all the way through
One day, He fixed it for me
And here's what I'm gonna do
For the rest of my life
I will serve Him forevermore...

I think they repeat the choir verse, and then the bridge is:

Through the storm (alto)
And the rain (tenor)
Through sickness and pain (all parts)

Drive:
For the rest of my life (repeat until the lead falls out)
I will serve Him forever more.

I promise I will love you forever if you can tell me who sings that!!!
When you're in love you don't want to fall asleep bc reality is finally better than your dreams.

Rev Clay Evans and the Fellowship Baptist Church Choir.  Or it might be Rev Clay Evans and the AARC Mass Choir.  I do know for a fact that Rev Clay Evans and one of his choirs made that song.  I have been trying to get that song for the last year.

I think my next step will be to call the church and ask them.  I know the church is in Chicago and the new Pastor is Rev Jenkins, Rev Clay Evans is still there sometimes, maybe I can speak with Clay Evans personally, lol.

Thank you SO MUCH!  I'll be searching for it as of now!  By the way, the best bet is probably to call either the church or the label.  If you do speak to the Rev. himself, please let me know.  That'll earn you some cool points with me!  LOL!  I collect "vintage" gospel CDs, and once I get my mind set on a recording, I will not stop until I have it in my hand.  Sometimes, that has meant calling the label, or if it's defunct, calling the former execs of the label, or even (as I recently had to do) calling the artist him/herself.  I hope you find it (and if I find it first, I'll let you know).

Hello, I've heard this song, not exactly positive on the artist, but I heard Rev. Timothy Wright and Kieth "Wonderboy" Johnson sing a version on video with a mixed choir singing background.

Welcome to the site!! This is Rev. Timothy Wright with Keith Wonderboy Johnson singing the lead.  ;)

You are speaking of a more recent version of the song.  The original was slow with a lady singing lead.

I have the Timothy Wright song and that is not the one she is referring to.  Timothy Wright's song is fast.  I was fooled by the title, but when I heard it, I knew it was not the original song that I loved.  She is speaking of a slower song that was made in the 80's.  I am positive it is Rev Clay Evans choir that made the song.
