Bishop Patterson who has been fighting cancer over the past few years died today.
Those of you familar with the C.O.G.I.C. know that he was a breath of fresh air.
He ushered the denomination from the 40's - 50's mindset into the new millennium.
He will be missed by many, but received by God.

Okay, I got this news from a Minister of Music in Memphis close to the church.
Someone eles PM'ed me and said my information is totally false. This is a time
I would be glad to be wrong and misinformed. If that being the case I hope a
mod will delete this thread.

COGIC Biship G.E. Patterson dead at 67

Action News 5 has learned that Church of God in Christ Bishop G.E. Patterson passed away today. 

The following is a statement from the Carter Malone Group, which acted as spokesperson for Patterson and COGIC:

This afternoon at 4:03 p.m. at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, the Presiding Bishop of the Church of God In Christ, Bishop G.E. Patterson, passed away as a result of heart failure.  Patterson was surrounded by his wife, Mrs. Louise Patterson, and his family.

Patterson served as the leader of the fourth-largest Protestant religious denomination in the world with an estimated membership of 6.5 million members.  He led the denomination since November 2000.

Two years ago, Patterson disclosed he had prostate cancer.  In January, he was hospitalized with undisclosed illness.

Yes a great man has died. Holy Temple Church of God In Christ was my first Chruch.I played my first song on the bass there.And drums at night service.

I'm not part of the COGIC movement but I did watch him every Sunday morning on BET before I went to my service.  I will truly miss him.
