Two Keyboards?

Would you guys use two keyboards to play live?



I wouldn't. Why? Because I like to concentrate on my part and my sound.
I have tried it before but it's hard for me, I am not use to using two keyboards.
And it is also hard getting a backup keyboard player.:)

I would, and I have, but it really depends on the band.

If it were just me and a drummer, then I would probably prefer two keyboards. I would have one spit with a bass voise on the lower eys, then either a horn/string/pad sound for the higher keys. Then the primary board would probably be some piano/ rhodes sound. Or, if the keyboard has the capability and I had time to set it up, I would setup a performance one one keyboard with the sounds I want and split /layer setups.

If there was already a baass player, guitar player, horns section, or another keyboard player, then I wouldn't see a need for another board. Thats my take on it. Be Blessed!

It also depends on the style......regular sunday mornings wont require all of that.  But a concert for a choir might.  Even with guitars and brass sections.....there are sooooooooooo many sounds that you can get on a board (synth lead, bells, strings only, key bass if the bass player doesn't have effects)  Look at Tye.......he has Brass and guitars and he STILL uses a lot of boards....It just depends on the setting

Also, when I can I like to use an 88-key weighted board (Yamama S08, bottom) and a lighter 61-key keyboard (Yamaha S30, top). They are rigged so that MIDI signals from the S08 goes to the S30.

Having a synth-like action on the top board means that you can do organ-ish slides and slurs - it's so much easier with non-weighted keys.

I live in North Carolina in a very rural community, where there is just drums and a keyboard player, so I use two boards sometimes, but not all the time, because I have the Motif es7 and that does all I need, but when I want something extra I use the motif and a roland juno for bass on top.

Yes.............but having two boards can make your job easier.  Where I'm from for a big concert we have 5 guys (Organ, Piano/ep, effects, drums, bass) Obviously organist play organ and pianist play their piano or ep.  The effects guy can have two or three boards.. because it makes his job easier (not having to siwtch songs on the fly) and he can have the best sounds from each board (Triton synth, Fantom lead, etc).  TIs a process though.....it takes concentration and skill to play two boards effectively at once

Yeah man I play three sundays per month. I play two keyboards almost every time I play (unless i dont have a drummer) becuase im a one man band. There are no other board players that play with me at church with my choirs. So usually on the bottom, i have my 88 keys split bass and piano or electric piano. I mainly play there unless there are certain songs that require this or that for flash points. In this case....i have 61 keys on top. Its normally not split....and i have my presets set to 1) some tight Brass 2) some nice synths/leads 3)good layered organs 4)sometimes electric piano! So yeah man....if you're a "one man band" with just you and your drummer and maybe a bass too then two boards definitely come in need bruh! Be blessed!

That's exactly what I do on Sundays. I have the Roland RD700sx on the bottom and the Roland XP-10 on top...101 Bass split with RD Grand piano and either Brass 1 or Spid Brass on the XP-10.  At one service I used 3 boards. RD-700 sx on bottom, Alesis Quadsynth on top and GeneralMusic WX2 on the side. I ran 101 Bass split with RD Grand piano and some tight brass sound on the Alesis and I ran a click track on the GeneralMusic. I don't have a bass player at all and I really don't like to split the board but my bruh insist (who is the drummer...awesome pocket!! :D) so majority of the time I don't do that.

I would. I do it all the time. With the group i play for i have to play two keyboards at the same time.

Two keyboards are handy..

I use a Triton on the bottom and a Hammond XK-3 on top.  I can left or right hand organ chords and still play piano lines or brass lines or what have you. 

I also like to play electric piano on the lower and the punctuate with the organ on top...

I seldom play single board....
