I doubt you'll regret having a slide-dedicated guitar around. Really opens up the musical ideas. Besides, you can always go back to regular.
What I do is remove the nut, and cut a piece of business card to fit under it. Slap some Elmer's glue on there, and reassemble. Then, adjust your bridge for the feel.
If you're fancy, I guess you could use a small shim of thin wood, but the business card works fine for me (unless you've got a medium height setup anyhow, and aren't clumsy like me--if mine is too low, I fret out all over the place).
I also use 11's for slide. I like the Dean Markley Nickel Steels since they come with a plain 3rd and a wound 3rd. I like the wound 3rd... nice, bottleneck-y tone.
However, if your Yamaha has a trem on it, you'll have to adjust the springs to up the string gauge.

thanks for the info! definitely gonna print it out cuz ill be danged if i remember all that. did have the trem on it so ill have to adjust for that.
