Spoon, you can use the major pentatonic scale on this song. I think it will work well. Add some double note slides with it and you'll do fine.
To each... his own... Be creative.....

Yea,we play it.Thank GOD our piano player,do not play it like that. That is a great example of OVER-PLAYING. He is more than likely, just doing his solo thing, surely he would not play like that ,with other band members.

No guitar player :-\....but from what I'm hearing, maybe you should try playing some adlibs throughout the song, smooth licks here and there, accents....feel me?....and from time to time pick up the melody....just play fill ins...I would say, but I'm no guitar player. ;)

We do this song.....but I have NO idea of any artist that ever recorded it.

WHO does this song?

I use a Roland synth to do some steel drum-like grooves.

Fun song!   :)

I usually play single note rhythm on songs like that, accenting with chords occasionally.  Just noodling around on a major scale isnt clean.

My church plays this song alot aswell. I mainly play nice lead licks from the major pentatonic scale  and just add some notes from the relative natural minor scale on the 1st and 2nd strings. Then on the "all hail king jesus" section of the song I rock out on the minor pentatonic scale with distortion in the key of the song. My church loves it. Our keyboardist plays it very full like the guy in this video so I just sneak nice licks and 2 note slides were I can. Hope this helps!
