My warrior is wounded!!!
« on: April 23, 2007, 07:23:24 AM »
Hey I have a little problem.... My Musashi has been performing very well and I get alot of comment about it but....Yesterday at church we started a shout and my snare just started to detune by its seld... It started to wrinkle and i heard a very flat sound out of it.....I tried to tune it back up and it make a nasty cranking/cracking noise when i tuned up my tention rod.... My head I a few weeks old so I didnt think that it was my head.. I feels like Im breaking something when I turn the rod.... Can anyone tell me what the problem is?  :-\ ;D :)

Well if it was a massive de-tuning then it's done for.

Not true... not done for.

Simply sounds like a broken lug which is the part the tuning rod screws into not he external piece you see.

Take your head off. Check the head and see if the head pop or pulled out.
Get a phillips head screw driver and unscrew the problem lug from from the inside of the drum. See if it is cracked etc if so order a new one. It will cost you a couple of bucks (maybe $10-12). You may need to get a new spring as well.

It was only one tension rod last came loose but It never does that and I have never had ANY problems out of the drum before.... ?/? :-\... It was so loose that I could have just pulled it of of the lugs with out my key!!! It was fine after I tuned it but I scared that is will happen to me again!!! :-\ :(...

Hey, could have been about 4 different things I gues. I was watching one of the tenor drummers at RCC that kept hitting the head hard and it just kept detuning like crazy they finally took it off and put a new one on.

I forgot these drums on kits have different issues most of the time because the marching drums are built for extreme tension.
