Cubase Help

I have a Lexicon Lambda interface which comes with Cubase LE. Whenever I do recording or playback there's a sharp "scratching" sound which comes on and off and goes off when i press stop. Is this latency or what can I do to get rid of it coz it interferes with the concentration.

how would you define scratching? 

it could be an uncessary input turned on...

I think I figured it out. I changed the recording sample rate to 16 bit from 32 bit and it works just fine. I was probably putting pressure on my processor by doing 32 bit.
