I respect your point of views. I am a christian and love when I can defer to what's written in the bible for guidance. However there are scriptures that speak to my words. Jesus told us to love one another. The ten commandments tells us to love our neighbor as ourself. Jesus even went further by saying that this was the greatest of the commandments! This principle governs every situtation that we have all eloquently made points about.
Larue, your statements about blacks being concerned about each other is a very old tradition that is still relevant to this generation. That's something I believe that should continue. I can also see the detriment of only highlighting black degenerates as apart of the old paradigm of demonizing blacks while white degenerates still get a pass for their destructive behavior. Have you ever heard Cosby or any other so called conservative speak this passionately about crime as a whole? The answer is NO!! Where was Cosby when Enron happened? Where were the conservatives when 30 years ago EIN #'s were being issued to undocumented workers? No one what's to mention these facts but I digress...
Conservatives such as Limbaugh has been quoted on his show for saying that drug dealers or users should have the book thrown at them but when he was caught abusing pain killers, then his tune changed. Where was the public outrage? Where was the outrage from "conservatives"? In essence, LaRue you have echoed my diagnosis of us being damaged by a past system that taught us to view blackness as evil and whiteness as right. What about judging people by the content of their character? We love to march on King Day but we forget the core values of what he stood for. Conservatives are even bigger hypocrites because their leadership in the 60's hated King with a passion. Now they say that King would be appalled with all of the "blacks" who have an entitlement mentality!!! The slave trade was about entitlement of a certain lifestyle. The shipment of drugs to urban and rural ghettos were an upgrade from the plantation and sharecropping. Ever heard of the french connection. Wikipedia it and get a bang out of life. It is unfortunate to beat the degenerates of our community down without implicating the otherside. Jesus dimissed the woman caught in the act because they didn't bring the man that was involved. Chew on that for a moment.
guess you guy have never read the Declaration of Independence. If you ever read the document you'd find a exerpt that says that all men are created equal and are endowed by the creator with ineliable rights to the pursuit of prosperity and the pursuit of happiness. Sounds like entitlement to me. So since when are black people the only ones to with an entitlement mentality? The Rich elite thrive because their sense of entitlement of others to serve them with their lives and resources. The bible teaches us that the world is on a downward spin and not a spiritual utopia that most champion in pulpits, self help books and get rich quick schemes that pose as infomercials. Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand will get you fired from most churches. One would definetly be shown the door in the secular world... The very elect is being decieved!!! The Saga continues...
I tend to agree with Furious and some with LaRue. Here are my thoughts.
I think the bottom line is we are all in the same boat. If we could take these costumes off(our outward appearance-race/ethnicity) we'll find that we are all the same. Everybody sins and no one is exempt. But in America, it's about feeling superior over others. "No I don't do this, so I must be doing okay". We put others down to feel good about ourselves. We look for the log in our brother's eye but we don't see it in ours.
While the media focuses on the problems of African Americans, we know that every race has it's problems. Do you know how much lying, cheating, stealing and backstabbing happens on Wall Street and corporate America in general? But, people in general don't see that as a problem. Are there big sins and little sins? The media is not going to report on that because they are possibly involved in it.
Personally, just about every project that I've done from junior high on has been about African Americans. I do it because I have an interest in it and I use it as a way to educate others in my classes and maybe Bill was thinking in those same terms. However, it is crazy for someone or the media to portray that just Black people are having problems. However, if people are only educated by television, then they will think that. Research has shown that other races get their perceptions of Black people through the media.
So I guess when Bill made those statements someone was sitting at home thinking, "Wow those Black people really have some problems and we don't, so we're fine."
People need to examine themselves. Let God show you who you really are? It can hurt!!
Can America handle the truth? When is the last time America had a REAL conversation about respect, the truth and race? We haven't because it's easier to point out and report the ills of others than to look ourselves in the mirror. Everyone knows that America has gotten rich making money off of others. Will that ever be on CNN?
