HOW DO YOU MEND A BROKEN HEART (OR SNARE)???
« on: May 06, 2007, 07:52:11 PM »
OK. As many of you know, I am in love with me Pearl African Mahogany Snare. Its just phenomenal. However, its been very ringy lately and hasn't been tuning very nice. When setting it on my snare stand at Church this morning, I noticed that right above the Snare Butt, There is about a half dollar sized dent/crack In the Wood!!! I turned it over, and sure enough, its pushed through to the inside...

So 2 things. 1, is that whats been causing my sound issues?
2. Can it be fixed? How in the world would I fix it? Who could fix it? Should I just drill a large whole that encompasses the damage, and turn the mistake into a large vent hole?

Please help...I've never dealt with this before.

God Bless.

What's up, bro - how long have you owned this snare drum?  The reason as to why I am asking this is because your shell may still be within the warranty period.  More specifically, Pearl states the following:

"Shells: Wood shells are guaranteed against material failure, ply separation or going out of round for a period of three (3) years."

It is my belief that your issue would be catagorized as material failure, thus making a warranty claim valid.

For complete details of warranty information please contact your local authorized Pearl dealer, or Pearl Corporation 549 Metroplex Drive, Nashville TN. 37211-3140

If I remember correctly, ER, didn't you make this purchase off of ebay? If so, do you think Pearl would honor or warranty? Did your snare come with a warranty when you purchased it on ebay?
My goal as a musician is to be better than myself.

Yes Suga, I did get it on ebay. The seller was the original owner and had just had it for a few months. I can contact him and see if he had/has a warranty on it. Either way, j_kay, Even if its out of warranty, can Pearl fix it j_kay? Any idea how much something like this would cost?

God Bless.

The warranty comes with the drum is not tranferable, unfortunately.  I know that it's out of the warranty period, but that's good information to know for future reference.  Pearl can fix it.  Email geneokamoto@pearldrums.com to get more information on the cost and full details on how to rectify your issue.
