Which Hardware is the best???
« on: July 24, 2007, 07:36:07 AM »
Hey guys im looking for Hardware!
Mostly Cymbal-stands!
I know that there are a lot of brands but the sad thing is, that there are only few which fit my needs (stepless tilt, memolocks.....)
What kind of Hardware do you use?
By the way: Dont answer the money question! I want the best   ;)
Here are some examples:

Yamaha CS-945
Tama HC73BWN
Pearl B-1000
Gibraltar GI-9609
DW 9700

Please share your experience!

Thanx

For my money, I would go with the DW 9700 or the Pearl 1000 - both are excellent stands, and your investment will last for a long time.  For my kit, I have the Pearl 2000 series arms (which are the top of the line offering from Pearl), but if I didn't have a rack, I would get the DW 9700s.

The Yamaha stands is nice, but I would go with the 800 series, just for the asthetics of the double braced legs.  Aside from those features, everything else is identical.

I forgot to add - one small thing that I don't like about Yamaha's boom stands is that they get this circular indentation from where the wing nut meets the boom arm.  I'm just a stickler of dents and scrapes.  If it had the knurled arm like the DW9700 and the Pearl 2000 series (and don't worry, the 1000 series doesn't have that same 'issue' as the Yamaha boom stand.  Pearl's boom arm is secured differently than that of Yamaha's design), it would be a third runner up.

One more thing - the Yamaha tilter is geared, whereas the Pearl and the DW stands are not.  I'm not sure if you are into the whole full range of positioning, but I feel that non geared tilters allow for infinite positioning, instead of being 'bound' to the teeth in the gears.

I hope that this helps you in your quest.

Hey Jay!
Thanx for your quick response.
Here are some problems ;) :
The Pearl-stands are not able to put their arms into the tubes, like the yamahas which could cause some dents or bow the arm due to transportation.
Have you experienced that?
Do the Pearl stands have memo locks?
Same problem with the DW stands (arm into tube).
i must say that Tama has so far best features since ive found out that you can buy additionally memolocks for the tubes.
But i might not know everything. Thats why im here :D
I want gearless tilters so the Yamahas are out!!!
Does anyone have experience with the Tamas?
Money is not a factor!!!!
Not to sound arrogant, but if i cant afford the best then i have to wait a bit untill i can.
But the price differences arent too big so theres is not much to wait :D

other suggestions, experiences, additions

...we cannot forget about one of the greatest hardware companies in drum making which is TAMA.  The Tama HC73BWM Roadpro Boom Stand is a great stand.  The only downside to it is that it doesn't come with Memory Locks. >:(

But you can buy them additionally for 3or 4 $ each = 2 for one stand=  +6-8$ on top
Thats not much isnt it?

Sounds like a minor issue, like the indentation that I don't like with the Yamaha booms - it's something that you can 'get over', and just fold it down.  They'll be ok.  Regarding any denting with the 1000 series, I had them before I acquired the 2000 series and had no problem denting - just fold them down!  They're solid.  There are no memory locks for the 1000 series.  DW's 9700 does fold into the tube, hence the name 'boom/straight cymbal stand'.

I have had experience with Tama's Tilt stands, and they are nice.  They were of the toothed type, and they were dependable.  I know that the newer tilters are not geared.  Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the top of the line offerings.  You'll just have to make a check list as to what features that you need and cannot function without and a list of features that you can do without.

...well then...it "reads" like you've reached the end of your journey. ;)  DW, Pearl and TAMA are the leaders in the hardware dept.  Yamaha needs to add some of that Nouveau Magic to their stands. lol

...you're good with anyone of those 3 man.  I just added TAMA to the list because cats forget that their hardware is excellent as well.  Enjoy and get back to us with your reviews or opinions.  8)

That's a known fact, J!  You'd be surprised at some data that is out there about the reliability of those.  Of course, that doesn't mean that every 9000 owner will experience a problem.

...are you referring to "the pedal" thread?  You know, the one with the broken footboards on P.drummers forum?

You were still in the same vein; there is a new series by Pearl and it's called the 900 series.  Evidently, it's between the 2000 and 1000 series.

Out of the list for hardware breaking down on the road Id have to say Gibraltar was the only one Ive had bust (several times) on me and put me out.

Mapex Drums, Grant Custom Basses, Carparelli Basses, Istanbul Cymbals,!

...yeah, for some reason they're like the hottest thing out in hardware for the Semi Pro kits.  Pearl won an M.I.P.A. for the 900 series hardware.  Those joka's are on another level. :-\
