Left hand tenths: can you do them?
« on: June 13, 2007, 06:53:23 AM »
I can sort of do them on two white keys, but either I need a moment to prepare it before striking the keys or else I need to arpeggiate them slightly.

A white key and a black key, in either combination, forget it.
I am too alone in the world, and not alone enough to make every minute holy.

Yes, but I have monster hands.  If you have ever seen the movie Shallow Hal, I have banana fingers.  I play a chord that goes like this:

lh/rh
F,C,Eb,A/Eb,Ab,Db,F
I would rather be one of kind than a cheap copy of a great original.

The size of the hand doesn't really count.  I learned that from the Cassondra O'Neil DVD.  :)

For the way he's saying it, it does.

what 4 his glory means is cassandra was breaking down how she will use the pedal combined with rolling the tenth to still give you the overall sound

there are three types of tenths
and by this i dont mean minor or major I am speaking about distances

the smallest tenths are the ones such as F to Ab
or F# to A#
and a few others

middle groups are
C to E
and other white key to white key tenths

the largest tenth on the keyboard
is Db to F

I dont remember all the groups
because I can now play them all but i can barely play the Db to F

the good news is
that you can all get the sound of a tenth all of them even if you cant play the large ones

for example

if you cant play the Db to F
then play F to Ab

you are now playing the Db chord in first inversion

you can do this with all the tenths

if you cant play the big one find a smaller one by searching out the inversions

you can get some nice voiceleading witht he tenths like this

To be or not to be that is the question you anwer when you pray practice and read your word
