Amp Settings
« on: October 13, 2007, 05:57:21 PM »
Okay, I'm having a bit of a tussle with my amp and my keyboard. The amp I have is the Roland KC-350 (http://www.musiciansbuy.com/mmMBCOM/images/roland_kc350.jpg) and the keyboard I have is the Korg TR Music Workstation (http://www.musiciansbuy.com/mmMBCOM/images/korg_tr61.jpg).

For some reason I simply cannot get the two to cooperate like I want them to. Sometimes, the sounds are not loud enough and at other times, I can't get enough bass. When I attempt to boost the bass, the amp makes this weird rattling sound as if the tweeter is messed up. According to the guys at Guitar Center, though, the tweeter is perfectly fine.

So, I'm guessing that it has something to do with the way I'm setting my amp. I'm not very experienced in placing amps in the right setting, so hopefully someone here can offer me some pointers. Right now, I have my Low knob set at a quarter or so away from the default setting and the mid knob set at half while the high is set at maybe 3 or 4 notches above half. I have the main power boosted to the max and the channel power boosted at half way.

So if it were like a clock, it'd be:

LOW: Quarter after
MID: Half After
HIGH: 45 Mins After

Any help?

I have the kc-550. Had the same problem. Turn your amp down (main power)Turn up the volume to the channel your keyboard is plug in to.

I have a KC-150

Roland amps are Notorious for the sound breaking up.   Until you can afford better you might want to try this

Running your key into a good Stereo direct box (HI-Z in)

Use the (HI-Z out)  to goto the amp and run

Now once that is done run an XLR (MIC) cable From The Lo-Z on the direct box to the house.

With this setup you can reduce Noise from your amp and you should have good tone.
Also please make sure you don't use the Mic/Instrument input for Keys.  This will boost the audio signal too much.

Thanks for the tips, fellas. I'm considering upgrading to the 550, but I'm going to shop around a bit to see what works best. A lot of these tips have helped, but for the long run I probably need to chuck out some greens.
