Hey David,

While on the surface this may seem like a distant modulation, the two keys are are actually more closely related than you might think.  Remember Db = C# and C# is the third degree of the A major scale so we are modulating down a Major 3rd.

Here's a quick chord pattern that will get you there in four major:

(after you have done the Db thing your final chord will of course be Db)   Db/C# ||C#7  |F#m7  |Bm7  |E7  ||A (etc.)

Between the "||s" is actually the III VI II V || I of the key of Amajor (C# F# B E || A).

In the key of A major, the III chord is normally C#m7.  But it is not uncommon to alter that into the temporary dominant of F# (C#7) even when in the key of Amajor.  The final chord of your Db song is already the III of your A song.

Hope this helps.

I'd love to see that spelled out.  ;) :D

Another way you can modulat to A from there would be to do something like this:

Db / Ab-Db-F
B / Ab-Db-F
E / F#-A-D
A / E-A-C

Now, u are in the key of A.  After that, you can follow up with a few chords to establish your new key.  Something like this:

A / G#-A-C
A / F#-B-D#
A / F-A-B-D
A / E-A-C#
Real musicians play in every key!!!

A / G#-A-C change (A/ A-C#-E)
A / F#-B-D#
A / F-A-B-D
A / E-A-C#

By the way David, what's the first chord and note of the song that you're transitioning to?
I always play around with different transitions and want to learn and share with other musicians ...God bless,   BroAllan

Honestly man, I wasn't even thinking bout that song.  These is chords I been using for years.  But, since u point that out, it does sound like that song a little. :D
