Oh yeah, it also had the pedal with the leather strap and the toms had the drum heads were the old remo drum heads where if you position the toms in a certain way the set looks like it's alive and saying "I don't play that and you can't play me!!!".. Someone had an avatar of a set like that not too long ago.. Stay Blessed, Nate J.

- Because the drums take the most physical stress impact regardless of how proper the playing, it should be serviced weekly, batter heads changed monthly and replaced say every 3 years if it is a mid-level (sub $1000) kit . Every 5 for a pro kit ($1500+).
Big, quality medium-weight pro cymbals should be purchased from the jump. Cased after each service or rehearsal. They should be cleaned weekly. At minimum overhead mics and monitors should be in place so there is no need to play that "hard".

I also feel that churches should have a "guest " kit set up to preserve the main house kit. If this is not feasible then the house should require guest bring there own cymbals and snare because the house kit should not be re-tuned by a guest nor should the cymbals be broken by them and not replaced by the guest.

So, If I got a PDP FS kit in 2004, I'm supposed to get a new one this year? Whoopee!!!!!!

The only problem I have with a "guest" kit is that if I'm the guest, I already know that "guest" is going to be synonymous with "neglected" and "busted" and "improperly set up." Then we're right back to square one of this thread.

...Nope.  You step your game up and get the CX.  So if the pattern continues you should have a DW FinishPly in 15 years.  ;D ;D ;D

I'm very blessed to be in chruches who have great drums. The chruch that I'm worshiping with has a DW ( with gold rims and gold lugs ). Matted money /forest green finish, fusion sizes. All the cymbals are Zildjian K custom dry. Evans Eq2 heads, in ear monitors and the whole nine. Plus, they have a gear budget and they believe in blessing the musicians with envolope every sunday. Really nice set up :)... The set at my home chruch is a Arbitor, that happens to be the same green as the DW but with the laquered finish. Fusion sizes...
God is Good  :)!

The guest should be equal or better than the house kit. You should never short-change a guest in your house.

If the FS is well taking care of you should not need a new kit but you may need the edges recut. However, you may need new hardware. Wear and tear is eminant on the best care for kits. The biggest thing is to know your instrument and how to properly maintainance it in all facets. Inorance and slothfulness cause this type of situation to become a topic.

Yeah man, I was sooo happy and excited :o when I walk into the sancuary and saw a DW drumset with the proper cymbals, hardware, mics, pedals behind the shield. All the musician are more than able, plus the Pastor plays DRUMS ;D :)!!!!
At my home chruch, my Pastor give me a blank check and let me have at it at GC, I couldn't go crazy and spend like $3500.00. But that's how we got the Arbitor.
 I love that drumset!!!

Ok this is funny but not funny....Today I had to put my foot pedal to rest that I have had since I started playing when I was 9..12 years strong...lol. Well today during a upbeat song the chain broke...Snap Crackle  Pop...So for the remainder of service I had to work the floor tom as a bass...Sound like I was playing swing music during a shout...Just thought I would share this lol
I'm destined for greatness!!!

Some churches just don't feel that the drums are that important so they skimp.  I know of a church that spent 20k on a Hammond, 35k on a pipe organ that was only used to play anthems and another 10-15k on a grand piano.  Now after all of this, they would not buy the drummer a kit for the church.  He had to buy his own.  It was a decent kit, but I always brought my kit when I filled in for him.  Some people had the nerve to trip because I wanted quality equipment when I brought my kit in to play.
When you've done your very best, do even better.
