ahh man... a cracked splash?
« on: June 01, 2007, 10:06:09 AM »
hey y'all my sabian XS20 10" splash cracked! ive had it just over a year, it cracked along the shaping/ manufacturing line near the centre rather than on the edge so i kno i ent been licking it 2 hard. lol

As y'all kno i live in the UK and Sabian is in the US its gonna take real long for it to be shipped out replaced and shipped back, i use it on a regular basis, and right now can't afford to get a new one.

i've been reading up on methods of fixing i.e. welding/ soldering.

what do i do guyz?

You could take it to someone that could drill small holes on each side of the crack - that way, the spread of the crack will be stopped.

...I think it's time for you to upgrade to a 10" AAX and leave the XS20 alone.  There is nothing wrong with purchasing "used" cymbals.  Ebay.com

XS20'S are pretty thin... Like Funky said, Check EBAY!! You can find exellent gear for a good price.... Try the AAX line... Im not a fan of the brilliant finish cymbals but I like the natural finish line!! Check them both out and see what you think before you decide.. ;) ;)

All splash cymbals are thin, with the exception of the 'metal' splash designations.

....quit messin' around with the ZHT's, B8's, XS20's, CB1000's etc.

...get good used cymbals.  There are loads of used cymbals out there for the same price or even cheaper as one of those beginner line cymbals that you're craving.  Raise the standard in your cymbal pallete.  Buy 'em used and you'll be fine.  There's nothing wrong with 'em.  (Sabian) ;)

***sidenote***  Make sure you are checking your cymbal sleeves on a regular.  Some times we forget that those things wear down and before you know it, you have metal on metal.

*Another note* Try Not tightening you cymbals to where they have no freedom to move!! This can also result in you Replacing/Buying new cymbals!! One more thing.... Try Tilting your cymbals slightly toward you... This ca also help... :) ;)

Very good point. Particularly with he discription of the crack location. I suggest getting cymbal crowns which are made o a high density plastic and screw onto your current stand theards but reall cushion and protect with henderance. THey cost bout $7 US.

BTW: Vangie, Sabian is located in Canada not the US. So the British connection may possibly aid in your shipping ails. Stay on them though. It takes them a miute even in the States.

Youve had it over a year, you will get turned down for a warranty exchange. Id say your best is to go buy a better quality spalsh used! Trust me, the cost of shipping and customs and all the rest to Canada from the UK is not worth it.
