'tis true... Now they're going to come with an alternate effect to wear out, like the Crash of Doom, the O Zone, or the Effecks (or any similarly intended plates). 

"Stacking" cymbals is on it's way ;)

As for memories, I remember first learning how to do "doubles". That was a mess...hahaha

i'm still in 80s mode cuz i still tape sticks when they crack... i wuz sheddin 2 nite's ago at a guitar center and i cracked a stick slightly that a dude bought 4 me just 4 da shed, when we got done he wanted a refund lol but a few of us wuz tellin him u better tape them things and stop complainin!

this is a great thread..... umm i have to confess my ducktape sin..... i've done all the fore-mentioned "tapeness" but one i haven't seen is when i lost cymbal muffles, protectors, or if i had the muffle but no topper i'd use tape to fill the need... lol
and instead of shoe string to kill bass drum sliding i'd use an extension chord...... ;D

Lol Man im still playn on one that my boy left, he got it bc it was 24 karat gold hard ware on it thats funny, or u sit on a office chair where sometimes u dont have a choice but to "lean back" lol

Or i put a bible on my floor tom to get it to sound like my kick drum I would turn to around st john or so put the old testment part on the floor top and the rest of the new testament hung over to get the sound i want i would get clowned

You're not alone - I used to do that to my set as well.  In fact, most of the churched of that day (era) had their sets like that.  It's like me being easily able to identify the period of time a recording was done based on the sound of the drums.  I know that this is off topic, but is anyone else able to do this, too? 

I can definitely tell by the tuning of the snare and the type of fills that are done.
