On friend of god what is the line B for. Is there a way to get it for 4 string guitar...

The "B" line is for the low B string on a 5 string bass.  Usually when I play it, I'm playing a 5 string, so I play it higher on the neck (closer to the body where the fret to fret distance is shorter).  So the tab I've written shows me playing the F# in the 7th position on the B string.  If you play the song on a 4 string, you would play the F# at the 2nd fret on the E string.

If you wanted to move the whole tab to a 4 string you could move everything to the next highest string (B goes to E, E goes to A, etc) and reduce by 5 fret positions (7 becomes 2, 9 becomes 4, etc).

So

You could use either of the above tabs on a 4 string bass (since there are no notes actually being played on the B string)

First off...I am brand BRAND new to the bass. I've played a little guitar for awhile and my mom just gave me her bass.   

Anyway, I'm trying to learn many of the songs we sing/play at our church. I'm pretty sure we do the Phillips, Craig, and Dean version of "Friend of God" in the key of A. Can someone tab that out for me? Much appreciated and many blessings to you all.

The tab above is done assuming the song is in E.  To move it to A, move each note down a string and down 2 frets.

Instead of playing the E as the 7th fret on A string, play A as the 5th fret on E string.  If you are playing a 5 string, you can move the C# played on 9th fret of E string to the F# at fret 7 on the B string.  If you're playing a 4 string, just move it from the 9th fret on the E string to the 2nd fret on the E string.

I really need to learn this song, but I do not know how to read these tabs at all, and the post on how to read it still didnt really teach me how to read it.  So i figured i could just ask specific questions that i have.  So where do i start reading the tab and from the first note(number), how do i know which number is the second note?  Thanks in advance alot fellas

Read from left to right, as if there was a radio dial or a vertical line traveling from left to right.  Play the notes in that order, on whatever string is identified.  Just for grins, try playing in this order....BLUE then RED then GREEN then PURPLE.  Rinse / Repeat......
