There's a problem with this challenge in that, because of the Internet, if we offer a standard line from any movie, all you have to do is Google it. :-\

If it's too obscure or general, then no one will be able to get it. :-\

You're going to have to tweak this somehow.

Not off the top. Except that, isn't today the 27th and here on the East Coast it's 2:45. ;) :D

How about a description of the scene what leads up to it and or after it.

So for the same example

"........." comes from harlem nights and the fight starts because "Quick" says " the girls are always comeing up short" he says " to Della are yo in charge of the girls" and from there it escalates into della saying " you done accused me of stealing so now I gots ta kick yo...."

Something like that? ?/? :-\

I think we should stick to the quote.  Giving details surrounding the scene may make it too easy.  Not all quotes are that easy to Google up.

I think he meant the person answering would need to give the details.  So you will know that they did not just google it.

Ok, here's my quote:

"Let me tell you the story of "Right Hand, Left Hand." It's a tale of good and evil. Hate: It was with this hand that Cane iced his brother. Love: These five fingers, they go straight to the soul of man. The right hand: the hand of love. The story of life is this: Static. One hand is always fighting the other hand; and the left hand is kicking much a**. I mean, it looks like the right hand, Love, is finished. But, hold on, stop the presses, the right hand is coming back. Yeah, he got the left hand on the ropes, now, that's right. Ooh, it's the devastating right and Hate is hurt, he's down. Left-Hand Hate K.O.ed by Love."

I want the following:

-the character
-the movie, including year of release
-the scene description
-and lastly, the significance of that line in relation to the movie as a whole.

Uh, we're sorry sir. You have failed to meet all of the required criteria. But, we thank you for applying. NEXT!!

BTW, I saw your post. You'll have to speak to the director about the oversight. :-\

Yeah, I know, determining the movie is the easy part, but my focus is finding a person who can identify the significance of that scene, and what it represented.  Though that, too, is a little easy in my opinion, it helps to identify those with a discerning eye/ear as far cinema goes.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. That other part isn't a part of the challenge. J31 set the criteria for the challenge. Your last part is subjective, I believe and thereby, hard to judge. :-\

I could be wrong, though.

But, isn't that the whole beauty of art appreciation?  There can be different interpretations, and sometimes the discussions about the interpretations is what gives life to/ or continues the life of a work of art.  While it may not have been a part of the original criteria, don't you think it's important for members to be able to intelligently discuss the films?

In this case, however, I don't think there can be too many variations in the importance of that dialogue, but I could be wrong.

Of course, the members should be able to discuss films intelligently. But again, how would we judge the applicants. By how well they defend their position?
